Welcome to the post-Obama Democrat Party.
Just when you think Democrats in New York reached rock bottom with their new law allowing abortions up to the moment of birth, the state legislature controlled by the party voted to block college financial aide for Gold Star families AFTER voting to provide tuition assistance to illegal immigrants.
The New York Republican Party expressed its outrage online.
“Democrats just rejected tuition assistance for Gold Star families but approved it for illegal immigrants. Would these Democrats dare to look into the eyes of the children of fallen servicemen and women and say they matter less than those here illegally?” the state GOP tweeted.

More from Syracuse.com:
New York lawmakers on Tuesday refused to advance a bill that would have provided free college tuition to the families of all military personnel from the state who were killed in the line of duty.
The Assembly’s Higher Education Committee voted 15 to 11 to hold the bipartisan bill, effectively ending its chances of making it to a floor vote this session.
The move comes a week after lawmakers passed a $175 billion state budget that included $27 million to provide college tuition aid for undocumented immigrants.
There seems to be no end to the pandering to Hispanic voters at the expense of U.S. citizens from a party intent on offering free stuff in exchange for votes.
Not that state Democrats didn’t have a ready defense for their actions.
Assemblywoman Deborah Glick said in a statement Wednesday that an existing state scholarship program provides generous tuition aid to children, spouses and financial dependents of military members killed in combat zones, Syracuse/com reported.
“The bill in question sought to extend this program to cover any service members killed or seriously disabled in any mishap while on duty,” Glick said.
The reaction online suggests that most folks don’t expect anything much more from Democrats in New York.
Here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter:
Rather true to form.
Being noble and decent seems to be unfamiliar character traits for that lot.

Yes, they do? The loony left think they are right. The have no trouble talking down to folk that don’t share their view, those opposed aren’t acknowledged . They see & hear only what they want. Anything else is a waste of effort?

This is disgusting! I bet these lawmakers will be voted in again. New Yorkers are paying no attention to this. This state is done!

Just appalling. In the month of the military child NY politicians disgrace themselves by denying college aid to gold star families after approving massive assistance funding for illegal aliens in college. 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️ https://t.co/aOizSTg7Ey

And to think an illegal can get college tuition money from the good citizens of NYS. No wonder I left my birth sate years ago. Good riddance.

Right in line with their anti-military stance…few supported the VA, raises for active duty military, etc.

New York Democrats are putting illegal aliens before Gold Star Families.
That's right — they have prioritized people who broke the law over relatives of US military members who died in battle.
What a disgrace. https://t.co/5rUTWF8llY
