Fox co-host scolds Pete Hegseth when he interrupts migrants-are-fleeing-climate-change narrative with laughter

Pete Hegseth found himself being scolded when he laughed out loud over a Fox News contributor’s defense of the issue of climate refugees.

Marie Harf told Hegseth on “Outnumbered” Wednesday that he “shouldn’t laugh at” the idea that migrants are fleeing their homes due to climate change-related problems, claiming there is “hard evidence” to support the theory.

Co-host Melissa Francis introduced the segment with a look at the latest on immigration and the southern U.S. border, bringing up a tweet from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claiming the “far-right loves to drum up fear & resistance to immigrants.”

The democratic socialist congresswoman insisted that climate change is a “major factor fueling global migration.”

“There’s a lot of evidence,” Harf agreed. “The Department of Defense will actually tell you this, that the number of migrants on the world that are being forced to flee their homes because of climate change-related reasons…”

Hegseth audibly laughed out loud.

“You can just laugh at me,” Harf shot back as her co-host replied, “I am.”

“But the Department of Defense, where you used to serve, agrees with me and not you on this,” the former State Department staffer told Hegseth.

“In a number of places around the world, there is hard evidence that there are climate refugees, they’re being forced out of their homes because of drought, because of changing sea levels. This isn’t a joke, it’s not funny,” Harf said.

“I’m not saying that AOC should have tweeted about it today when we’re talking about the current crisis on the southern border. But it is a real thing and you shouldn’t laugh at it,” she added.

“I am laughing at it,” Hegseth replied.

“Well, you’re wrong,” Harf shot back as Francis interjected to “settle the argument.”

She cited research and other reports and concluded that “the science does not support it.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Harf argued, “but there is numerous evidence that in Syria one of the reasons…”

“It’s like 100 pages, I’ve got it there,” Francis replied as she passed her paperwork across the table.

“Okay, well, I worked on this for four years in the Obama administration, you found one thing online Melissa,” Harf fired back.

“It’s not one thing. It’s actually huge,” Francis clarified.

Hegseth eventually got in with a few words, expressing his bewilderment with Harf blaming climate change for immigration issues rather than violence, wars and  corrupt governments.

“So civil war and bombs and corrupt governments and dictatorships… you’ve got terribly run governments, you’ve got economies going in the tank because of bad policies,” he argued.

“People are fleeing crimes and gangs and drugs and coming to our country,” Hegseth noted. “And you want to talk about climate change? It’ so missing the mark.”
