With Barr backing him now, Trump ratchets up his anger over hostile Dems’ ‘attempted coup’

President Donald Trump slammed special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation as an “attempted coup” and blasted the “angry Democrats” who hated him so much they tried to remove him from office.

The president minced no words as he spoke to reporters on the White House South Lawn Wednesday before departing for Texas, denouncing the probe that was “started illegally” and cost American taxpayers millions of dollars.

“Well, the Mueller report is interesting. After $35 million with 13 – increased to 18 – angry Democrats, people that truly hated Donald Trump, truly hated Trump, they found no collusion whatsoever with Russia,” the president said.

“But I could have told you that and so could most people and so could have everybody that voted for me, which was a lot of people. So, after wasting all of this money and all of this time with people that were haters, people that worked on the Hillary Clinton Foundation, people that were absolutely haters of Trump, they found no collusion,” he added.

Trump went on to condemn the “illegal acts” in the “phony investigation,” calling out fired FBI Director James Comey as well as other FBI players like Lisa Page, Peter Strzok and Deputy Director of the FBI, Andrew McCabe.

“It was an illegal investigation. It was started illegally. Everything about it was crooked. Every single thing about it. There were dirty cops, these were bad people,” he said.

“And this was an attempted coup. This was an attempted take down of a president,” Trump told reporters. “And we beat them. We beat them.”

The president has repeatedly slammed the investigation, which looked into allegations that the president’s 2016 campaign colluded with the Russian government, as a “witch hunt.”

Mueller submitted his report on the two-year probe last month and Attorney General William Barr summarized it in a letter indicating there were no findings of collusion.

Trump praised Barr for “doing a great job getting started on going back to the origins of exactly where this all started.”

“Because this was an illegal witch-hunt. And everybody knew it,” an obviously frustrated Trump said Wednesday. “And they got caught. And what they did was treason. What they did was terrible. What they did was against our constitution and everything we stand for.”

“So the Mueller report, when they talk about obstruction, we fight back. And you know why we fight back? Because I knew how illegal this whole thing was, it was a scam,” he added. “What they did was disgraceful. There has never been anything like it in the history of our country.”

Democrats have been chomping at the bit for the report to be released and Barr indicated on Tuesday that it could be expected within a week. During a congressional hearing, the attorney general would not answer a lawmaker’s question on whether he had given a copy of Mueller’s report to the White House, The Hill reported.

The president told reporters on Wednesday that he has not only not seen the report, but doesn’t care to.

“I have not seen the Mueller report. I have not read the Mueller report. I won. No collusion, no obstruction. I won,” he said. “As far as I’m concerned I don’t care about the Mueller report. I’ve been totally exonerated.”
