Smollett loses NAACP award. Ingraham confronts Brazile about the scandal and gets gibberish

Despite facing heavy criticism this week from one of the most powerful black public policy groups in America for its stunning decision to nominate disgraced Hollywood actor Jussie Smollett for an image award as per his work on the TV series “Empire,” the NAACP kept the nomination.

But instead of attending the NAACP’s Image Awards Dinner this Friday evening, Smollett understandably skipped the event, and another actor took the prize.

“Smollett was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Jamal Lyon on the Fox show, but ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star Jesse Williams won the award during the untelevised portion of the show at the awards dinner on Friday,” Page Six reported.

But according to the black conservative group Project 21, Smollett shouldn’t have even had the chance to win an award in the first place. The group initially went after the NAACP earlier this month after Chicago authorities indicted Smollett for staging a hate crime hoax.

“After Jussie Smollett’s indictment on felony charges for lying to law enforcement about an alleged hate crime, members of the Project 21 black leadership network are asking the NAACP to rescind Smollett’s nomination for an upcoming Image Award,” the group announced at the time.

After local prosecutors dropped all the charges against Smollett this week for reasons that remain unclear — though many suspect corruption may be afoot — Project 21 reiterated its stance.

“Project 21 continues to maintain that the NAACP should drop its nomination of Smollett for an honor at its upcoming Image Awards ceremony,” the group wrote in a presser Wednesday, a day after Chicago prosecutors cleared Smollett of all wrongdoing.

Smollett neither attended the event nor won anything.

Guess who did attend the event, though …

Newly minted Fox News contributor Donna Brazile.

Speaking with network host Laura Ingraham shortly before the start of the dinner Friday night, the longtime Democrat activist and proven Democrat cheat, of course, defended the NAACP.

Listen:

“He received his nomination before he faked his crime,” she argued.

And?

She then suggested that perhaps Smollett really is innocent. Keep in mind that even local prosecutors believe he’s guilty. They claim they let him off the hook to focus on violent crimes.

“As you know, I have had so many emotions. Emotions about the fact that perhaps he was a victim of a homophobic racist attack,” she said before being cut off by Ingraham.

“You still believe that?” the host asked.

Brazile responded by rambling about her relationship with Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx, the potentially corrupt official reportedly responsible for Smollett’s premature acquittal.

Ingraham interrupted again to highlight the severity of the actor’s crime.

“If this were a white guy who said that two black guys approached him and screamed cracker and smashed him over the head and put something around his neck and poured something on him, there’d be protests everywhere that this guy needs to get the book thrown at him and I would be leading the protest,” she argued. “Anyone who fakes a hate crime does a real disservice to those that are truly the victims of hate crimes. If the shoe was on the other foot, they would be going crazy on all fronts. That’s the deal.”

It was then that Brazile did the unthinkable and pulled out the “white face” argument.

Listen:

“We don’t know anything about the two guys. I was seeing this morning that they might have had on ski masks or white face. I have never even heard of that,” she said in regard to the two Nigerian brothers who Smollett allegedly paid to stage a hate crime against him.

Earlier in the week Smollett’s attorney, Tina Glandian, tried to explain why her client had initially claimed he’d been attacked by two white Trump supporters by suggesting that perhaps the brothers had been wearing “white face” when the attack occurred.

Ingraham was stunned that the former DNC chair had apparently fallen for this.

“Are you actually telling me that you believe what Jussie’s lawyer [said]?” she asked in shock, adding that if Smollett’s serious about such allegations, why did he have his records sealed?

“You know, if he decides to come to the NAACP … and he goes on the red carpet, he better have something to say, because he’s diverting attention away from all of the great people who’re up for awards,” Brazile stammered in reply. “He’s also diverting attention from a mayoral race on Tuesday and he’s diverting attention from all of the kids and adults who’ve  been murdered in Chicago.”

She was also up for an award too,  by the way … (and she won!)

“You remember, Laura, you and I are almost the same age. You are a few months younger. Who is counting. I’m going to try to look good on that red carpet,” she then suddenly added for no legitimate reason whatsoever, spurring Ingraham to reply with “whatever …”

Brazile then concluded the discussion by expressing her bafflement over Smollett’s charges being dropped, saying, “If this is due process, we need to hear about the process. I am baffled.”

It’s not due process …

It’s corruption. It’s a corruption so deep that Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, a Democrat, and legions of others, including Chicago Police Department Superintendent Eddie Johnson Eddie Johnson, have all declared war on Smollett and vowed to hold the parties responsible for this travesty to account.

But not Donna Brazile. Oh, no, no. She’d rather talk about “white face” and, of course, how good she allegedly looks.

In the words of Laura Ingraham,  “Whatever …”

OK, OK, she looks alright …
