Sometimes it’s almost too much to take …
This morning Savannah Guthrie of NBC asked the White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders if President Trump owed Special Counsel Robert Mueller an apology.
Sanders deftly parried the ridiculous notion with the statement that “Democrats and the liberal media owe the president and they owe the American people an apology.”
Savannah Guthrie spars with Sarah Sanders …
Two years, $25.2 million, 3000 subpoenas and 500 witnesses interviewed. After all that, the end result is that it was all pointless; a waste of time and government resources. The national political divisiveness it engendered was perhaps the biggest cost that will linger on and on.
“Did Robert Mueller deserve better from the president than this kind of language and behavior?” Guthrie asked Sanders. “For the last two years the president has absolutely eviscerated Bob Mueller, a lifelong public servant, a former Marine, a registered Republican. He’s called him a national disgrace, discredited, a prosecutor gone rogue who oversaw a gang of thugs.”
Like most viewers with the ability to rub two brain cells together to create a spark, Sanders was incredulous. She fired back: “Are you kidding? The President’s rhetoric matches … the media and Democrats have called the President an agent of a foreign government, but that is an accusation equal to treason, which is punishable by death in this country.”
“You have kids,” Guthrie said, “and you know that if you say, ‘Did you do this?’ The answer isn’t, ‘Yeah, but my brother did that.’ So let’s talk about the President’s behavior. He called Robert Mueller – he trashed him for two years … does he owe Robert Mueller an apology for that kind of rhetoric?”
Not backing down an inch, Sanders argued: “I think Democrats and the liberal media owe the President and they owe the American people an apology. They wasted two years and created a massive disruption and distraction from things that impact everyone’s day-to-day life.”
Subsequently, Guthrie cried, “Russia did, in fact, meddle in our elections, which is borne out by this latest report and the intelligence agencies of the U.S.”
Sanders pointed out: “And they tried to tie the President of the United States to it, which was completely false and completely wrong.”
Early on in the interview, Guthrie made it clear she was not buying that Mueller’s report exonerated the President. She asked the Press Secretary if she would acknowledge that it is incorrect for the President to call this a total exoneration.
“It is,” Sanders insisted. “It is a complete and total exoneration. … In the legal community, when you can’t convict somebody on something, you’re exonerating them, legally exonerating them.”
On the subject of obstruction, Sanders said, “It’s very hard to obstruct something when there wasn’t a crime.” Guthrie tried to dismiss the idea as a “technical legal argument that may or may not have guided the decision-making here.”
There are no “mea culpas” this day at NBC. Not yet, but a dead horse eventually disintegrates.

You tell me. Did the President deserve better from the press than being tried, convicted and hung every single day?https://t.co/8xQ0HlTpqk
