Read it and weep? Watch the stunned media meltdown across networks when Mueller report is released

At 5:00 pm on Friday, special counsel Robert Mueller submitted his long-awaited report on Russian collusion to Attorney General William Barr.

The reaction from the mainstream media and Hollywood celebrities ranged from the gnashing of teeth to outright lividness. It was almost Biblical in its tragedy.

Over at MSNBC, host Chris Matthews seemed puzzled at first.

“How can the president be pointed to as leading collusion with Russia, aiding a Russian conspiracy to interfere with our elections if none of his henchmen, none of his children, none of his associates have been indicted?”  he asked a panel of guests.

His puzzlement quickly transformed into anger over Mueller never sitting with Trump for an interview: “He will not be charged with obstruction or with collusion without ever having to sit down with the special counsel Mueller to answer his damn questions! How can that happen?” he fumed.

“Why was there never an interrogation of this president? We were told for weeks by experts, ‘You cannot deal with an obstruction-of-justice charge or investigation without getting the motive. … How could they let Trump off the hook?

According to Fox News, fellow MSNBC host Rachel Maddow “was visibly emotional throughout her show,” which aired two hours after Matthews’ program. The conspiracy theory-embracing host did, however, try to have a positive attitude by speculating over what the Mueller report “means.”

“Finally it’s happened. In terms of what that means and what Mueller found, we know only the smallest little bits. This is the start of something, apparently, not the end of something,” she claimed.

Listen:

The apparent nightmare reportedly started early for MSNBC when media outlets obtained confirmed Friday morning that Mueller’s report would be released soon and that there would be no more indictments.

Observe the confused manner in which “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski reacted to the news:

Over at CNN, the reaction seemed more sensible.

Multiple hosts and pundits admitted that the report was a win for the president.

“[T]his is a good night certainly for the president, for his family — Don Jr. was in the meeting in Trump Tower, he’s not going to be indicted — Jared Kushner, questions about him, he’s not going to be indicted,” host Anderson Cooper reportedly said.

CNN chief legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin concurred somewhat.

“There has been a lot of suspicion around certain people. And a lot of negative things have been said and imputation of criminal activity,” he reportedly said to host Wolf Blitzer earlier in the evening.

“Mueller has said, ‘I am not proceeding.’ There is no better news to receive than you are not being indicted by the United States government.”

Listen:

But speaking with Cooper later in the evening, he changed his tune.

“What are the facts that Mueller found? If there is a narrative in there, let’s wait and see what he found,”  he reportedly said.

Now that the Russian collusion angle has failed, it appears some in the media hope to build a new anti-Trump narrative based on the findings in Mueller’s report.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’RE MISSING …

Fox News host Chris Wallace, known for seemingly siding with Democrats, appears to bark up this tree as well.

“No one has seen [this report],” he said Friday evening. “To say that somehow this clears the president seems like the height of rushing to judgment.”

Is it, though?

Of note regarding the Russian collusion narrative is the fact that, though Democrats, their media allies and Hollywood celebrities have spent two years proclaiming that President Donald Trump had colluded with Russian operatives to affect the outcome of the 2016 presidential election, Mueller never charged, indicted or convicted anyone for collusion.

The fact that Mueller’s investigation is complete and he still hasn’t charged anyone for collusion means the Russian collusion narrative was a lie.

In other words, every time that the president had in the past two years tweeted “NO COLLUSION” (or something similar) — only to be mocked by Democrats, their media allies and Hollywood celebrities — he had been telling the truth.

This fact is NOT sitting well with Hollywood celebrities.

Comedian Bill Maher, the host of HBO’s “Real  Time,” seemed to dismiss the report altogether.

“I’m just going to go by what we do know, and I must say I don’t think it looks good. No further indictments. … Did the Democrats put too must trust in the Mueller report? Because I don’t need the Mueller report to know he’s [Trump’s] a traitor. I have a TV,” he told a panel of guests.

Listen:

Other Hollywood celebrities reacted similarly, with one going so far as to say that Mueller’s report “shouldn’t even matter” because there are allegedly “ALREADY MULTIPLE REASONS TO IMPEACH AND REMOVE TRUMP FROM OFFICE.”

It’s unclear what those reasons happen to be.

Look at this and other tweets below:

Surprisingly, many Hollywood celebrities have remained quiet, despite having spent years accusing Trump of collusion:

The last time Billy Baldwin tweeted was early Friday morning, hours before the report was released. Cat got your tongue, buddy?
