In the running list of excuses made by the left for Rep. Ilhan Omar’s anti-Semitism, Rep. James Clyburn just offered his stunning addition.
The South Carolina Democrat suggested Wednesday that Omar’s experience of escaping violence in Somalia where she was born was “more personal” than that of Jews who had parents survive the Holocaust, The Hill reported.
“I’m serious about that. There are people who tell me, ‘Well, my parents are Holocaust survivors.’ ‘My parents did this.’ It’s more personal with her,” the House Majority Whip said. “I’ve talked to her, and I can tell you she is living through a lot of pain.”
The Democratic excuses so far:
1. Omar is a benighted ignoramus who must be educated like a small child.
2. Omar’s open anti-Semitism is ACKSHUALLY just anti-Israel rhetoric.
4. Maybe she’s anti-Semitic but the Holocaust was a long time ago and she’s from Somalia.

Liberals have come to Omar’s defense in the wake of fiery backlash over her repeated use of antisemitic tropes and frequent controversial comments. Democrats delayed a vote on an resolution that was prompted by the outcry over the Minnesota Democrat’s antisemitism though it failed to mention her by name.
The freshman Democrat has come under fire for her comments and recent tweets about the “dual loyalty” of congressional members on Israel, with her remarks on the Israel-Palestine conflict and on Israel itself drawing backlash from many, including top-ranking Democrats and her colleagues on the Foreign Affairs Committee.
The Majority Whip of the Democratic Party, @WhipClyburn declares, it’s time to move on from “never again.”
His comments are even worse than @IlhanMN’s.

Omar’s defenders have created such a rift in the party that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was reportedly overwhelmed with frustration Thursday.

But the California Democrat joined her colleagues in offering excuses for Omar later.
Asked whether she believes Rep. Ilhan Omar understands criticism of her comments, Speaker Nancy Pelosi says “I don’t believe it was intended in any anti-Semitic way” but “if that’s how it was interpreted, we have to remove all doubt.” https://t.co/4PCIs6gh1F pic.twitter.com/QrngohXcDu

Omar continues to get support from progressives and from the likes of Clyburn who declared that the Muslim congresswoman would not be “targeted” in the resolution being considered.
“She won’t be targeted. We’re going to target those people who had her picture on the Twin Towers,” Clyburn said, referring to a controversial GOP display in the West Virginia statehouse. “This resolution is going to be inclusive; it’s going to be expansive.”

According to The Hill:
Clyburn came to Omar’s defense Wednesday, lamenting that many of the media reports surrounding the recent controversy have omitted mentioning that Omar, who was born in Somalia, had to flee the country to escape violence and spent four years in a Kenyan refugee camp before coming to the United States.
Her experience, Clyburn argued, is much more empirical — and powerful — than that of people who are generations removed from the Holocaust, Japanese internment camps during World War II and the other violent episodes that have marked history.
The Anti-Defamation League blasted Clyburn in a tweet.
The Holocaust was a singular tragedy resulting in the death of 6M Jews. It’s offensive to diminish the suffering of survivors & the continuing pain of Jews today. We respect @WhipClyburn’s long record of public service, but he should apologize & retract: https://t.co/m9zWTFHz1z

Defending Omar’s anti-Semitism seems offensive enough, but contrasting her “experience” with Holocaust survivors and their families is beyond the pale.

The Ilhan Omar, non-Ilhan Omar condemnation bill being put forth by Pelosi’s Dem House today is a total farce. The name of the resolution itself reveals the subtext — this is about treating the bigoted congresswoman and those who have criticized her for her bigotry as equivalent pic.twitter.com/AGi7U47yt7

So which is it: Must we have “equity in our outrage” or must we decide that some “pain” is more “personal”? I wish Democrats would decide.

Deeply offensive statement from Clyburn, who argues that Omar should be given a free pass bc she fled Somolia. “There are people who tell me, ‘Well, my parents are Holocaust survivors.’ ‘My parents did this.’ It’s more personal with her” https://t.co/a2RRFlEUus

Bad when the Democrats’ response is “our member is too stupid to know she’s anti-Semitic, but she’s from Somalia.” Not good.

I suppose it could be said to descendants of slavery that it’s not personal to them because they didn’t personally experience it. How well would that fly?

This opinion from Mr. Clyburn is good to know… By the way, anyone know when the reparations topic will hit the floor? Will want this opinion brought back up. @DNC, you all never disappoint!

So her parents, grandparents and siblings were all hauled away in train cars? Then stripped of their possessions and their dignity? Then systematically murdered in gas chambers or just starved to death? She personally witnessed this while imprisoned herself?
No? Then STFU!
