NY Times admits ‘border at breaking point’ as more than 76,000 cross in a month, DHS says ‘spiraling out of control’

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen testified in front of the House Committee on Homeland Security Wednesday that the border crisis was “spiraling out of control.”

“In February, we saw a 30 percent jump over the previous month, with agents apprehending or encountering nearly 75,000 aliens,” Nielsen said. “This is an 80 percent increase over the same time last year. And I can report today that CBP is forecasting the problem will get even worse this spring as the weather warms up.”

“We want to strengthen legal immigration and welcome more individuals through a merit-based system that enhances our economic vitality and the vibrancy of our diverse nation. We also will continue to uphold our humanitarian ideals,” she said. “But illegal immigration is simply spiraling out of control and threatening public safety and national security.”

The crisis along the southern U.S. border has grown so dire that even the demonstrably left-wing media finally appear willing to acknowledge it, or at least to some extent.

“Border at ‘Breaking Point’ as More than 76,000 Migrants Cross in a Month,” a headline published at The New York Times on Tuesday reads.

“The number of migrant families crossing the southwest border has once again broken records, with unauthorized entries nearly doubling what they were a year ago. … More than 76,000 migrants crossed the border without authorization in February,” the actual report reads.

Gosh, it almost sounds like a national emergency …

“The system is well beyond capacity, and remains at the breaking point,” U.S. Customs and Border Protection commissioner Kevin K. McAleenan told the Times. “This is clearly both a border security and a humanitarian crisis.”

No duh. President Donald Trump, congressional Republicans, current/former immigration officials and every Trump supporter from Washington, D.C. to California has been sounding the alarm about the crisis along the border for months and years, albeit to no avail.

Time and time again Democrats and their media allies have dismissed the right’s warnings, claiming that there’s no crisis along the border and that the right purposefully manufactured the crisis out of thin air to fear-monger and gin up anti-Democrat sentiment.

This fact-averse rhetoric was only further ramped up after the government fell into a government shutdown late last year because of the Democrats’ refusal to fund the president’s desired southern U.S. border. And then when the shutdown ended and the president declared a national emergency in February, the clamor reached a fevered pitch.

Democrats, their media allies and their Hollywood allies all pounced:

Yet only weeks later, the Times, The Washington Post, NPR, MSNBC, NBC and even CNN are now suddenly admitting that, yeah, there’s a crisis at the border. Congratulations on being extremely late to the party. There’s just one “yuge” problem with the media’s reports.

Every left-wing media outlet is falsely either suggesting or outright claiming that the president’s tough immigration policies are to blame for the current surge in border crossings.

“Trump policies causing a surge of illegal border crossings,” reads a stunning HL at MSNBC:

HERE’S WHAT YOU’RE MISSING …

The Times piece meanwhile says that the increase in border crossings “suggest[s] that the Trump administration’s aggressive policies have not discouraged new migration to the United States” and argues that it’s “a strong sign that stepped-up prosecutions, new controls on asylum and harsher detention policies have not reversed what remains a powerful lure for thousands of families fleeing violence and poverty.”

Never mind that a host of the president’s immigration policies have been thwarted by activist judges. And never mind that Trump’s most important tool to fight illegal immigration — a fortified wall along the border that immigration officials have confirmed would drastically alter border crossings — remains unbuilt specifically because of Democrat obstruction.

For some inexplicable reason, these facts flew right over the left-wing media’s heads, just as the fact of the crisis along the border had remained floating above their heads for weeks, months and years. It’s unclear how long it’ll take before these new sets of facts float down from the sky and into the reach of the habitually fact-free media.

But is the media even more than that? Perhaps. One Twitter user argues, “The chaos at the border is a direct result of border crisis deniers!”

Or more specifically, it’s a direct result of the border crisis deniers in Congress and the media who’ve colluded together to stymie the president’s immigration agenda at every turn.

And who of course continue to obfuscate rather than be totally upfront about what’s happening:
