Fox Business Melissa Francis on AOC’s dark money scandal: ‘a power grab. I’m in charge, I’m the boss.’

Fox Business Network’s Melissa Francis weighed in on the socialistic “power grab” by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the “dark money” allegations against her.

In an appearance on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Tuesday, the “Outnumbered” co-host raised several questions about the allegations that the New York Democrat violated campaign finance laws, contending that she should have been more aware of what was being done with contributions to her campaign.

“What she and her chief of staff are accused of doing is moving almost a million dollars from a PAC fund that they controlled over to an LLC, a limited liability corporation that they control,” Francis said, discussing the complaint filed with the Federal Election Commission by a  conservative government watchdog alleging that Ocasio-Cortez and her chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, funneled nearly $1 million in contributions from political action committees to two of his private companies.

Francis told host Tucker Carlson that the freshman lawmaker should have questioned: “why am I moving this money, these donations that were made to me from this PAC over to this other account that I control?”

“I control them both, why move it? What difference does it make?” she said Ocasio-Cortez should have asked.

The “After the Bell” co-anchor explained the obvious benefits of having funds in the private company versus a PAC which operates under stricter rules.

“The rules that govern a PAC are very clear and much more strict about how much you can spend, where it came from, what you have to disclose, how you list things. When it’s an LLC, a limited liability corporation, the rules are very different, much lighter – and she marked a lot of stuff strategic consulting. And you can do that rather than itemizing things,” Francis said.

“Is this illegal? I don’t know,” she added. “Both sides are going to have their arguments in court about this, no doubt.”

She noted the “fox guarding the hen-house” scenario in the irony of the campaign finance laws.

“The rules that govern campaign finance are written by the very people in power trying who are trying to hold onto it. So talk about the fox guarding the hen-house,” Francis said. “So the people who wrote these rules that she’s saying we are going to rewrite the rules, more people who have come to power and are trying to hang onto it.”

Ocasio-Cortez denied there was any violation in her campaign when asked about the FEC complaint Tuesday.

“There is no violation,” the self-proclaimed Democratic socialist told a reporter as she arrived at Ronald Reagan National Airport, dismissing any connection to “dark money” during her campaign and claiming she was “100 percent people-funded.”

“What’s interesting is you just have to ask yourself, why did you need to move it from one thing you control totally to another thing you control totally in order to make the expenditures?” Francis continued in her assessment of the issue on Tuesday. “It sounds like that dark money that she’s talking about, but we will see when they investigate.”

“The fact that we don’t know anything about it, the fact that it’s not itemized, doesn’t that by definition make it dark money or at least opaque money?” Carlson asked.

“It doesn’t make it bright money,” Francis replied. “It doesn’t make it transparent money, it makes it obscured money. At the very least it is obscured. There is not a bright light shining on it.”

The Fox Business host contended that the issue perfectly exposes “what socialism is” and Ocasio-Cortez’s “power grab” as she recently declared she was “the boss.”

“Think about what socialism is. The very definition is a government takeover of the means of production. It’s a power grab,” Francis told Carlson.

“That’s what she’s been all about, is a power grab. I’m in charge, I’m the boss. We go to Washington, we decide, we get the means of production, we get control and we tell you all what you get,” she explained.

“It all has the same theme if you boil it down to its most basic sense,” she added, referring to the congresswoman’s push for the radical “Green New Deal” legislation she is proposing.

“She doesn’t want other people using planes but she will use a plane when going back and forth between D.C. And New York because she’s important. She’s the ruling class. She’s powerful,” Francis said.  “She’s important, so she gets to do these things. But for you and me, we are just the serfs along the way, so we shouldn’t have a carbon footprint, we shouldn’t do all these other things.”
