Heir to infamous mob family predicts ‘rat’ Michael Cohen might have big problems in prison

Once President Donald Trump’s disgraced former attorney Michael Cohen reports to prison in May to serve a 3-year-old sentence for campaign finance violations and tax evasion, among other charges, he may be in store for some painfully deep trouble, according to Giovanni Gambino.

Speaking with the Daily Mail early Wednesday morning, a few short hours before Cohen testified publicly to the House Oversight Committee about the president and his alleged crimes, the Gambino crime family heir warned that prison inmates hate “rats.”

“A message for Michael Cohen: He better keep his mouth shut,” he said. “Inmates love Trump, and hate rats. If he wants to get out alive, he better keep his mouth shut about Trump.”

Unfortunately for Cohen, assuming Gambino’s warning is to be believed, he chose to run his mouth and expose all of Trump’s alleged secrets and alleged crimes, including conspiracy to violate campaign finance laws, obstruction of justice and perjury. He also “suggested Trump may have defrauded insurers, cheated on his taxes and illegally used his charity for personal profit.”

“Mr. Trump directed me to find a straw bidder to purchase a portrait of him that was being auctioned at an Art Hamptons Event,” Cohen said of the illegal charity use allegation.

“The objective was to ensure that his portrait, which was going to be auctioned last, would go for the highest price of any portrait that afternoon. The portrait was purchased by the fake bidder for $60,000. Mr. Trump directed the Trump Foundation, which is supposed to be a charitable organization, to repay the fake bidder, despite keeping the art for himself.”

The president has argued that every one of Cohen’s allegations is a bald-faced lie.

“Michael Cohen was one of many lawyers who represented me (unfortunately). He had other clients also. He was just disbarred by the State Supreme Court for lying & fraud.  He did bad things unrelated to Trump. He is lying in order to reduce his prison time. Using Crooked’s lawyer!” he tweeted early Wednesday morning:

He’s long referred to Cohen as a “rat”:

Gambino agrees with this assessment.

“President Trump is right by calling Cohen a rat,” he said. “Cohen unnecessarily lied to the FBI and stupidly incriminated himself. Unfortunately he might face the same fate as Whitey Bulger.”

Bulger was an infamous crime boss who was brutally beaten to death at a penitentiary in West Virginia last October after he decided to become an informant for federal authorities:

Gambino’s insinuation was that because Cohen has ran his mouth not only to Congress but to special counsel Robert Mueller as well, chances are he’ll suffer the same fate.

Is his prediction believable? Well, Gambino certainly knows the crime world well. Besides being the son of late Sicilian mob boss Francesco “Ciccio” Gambino, he’s also reportedly the cousin of deceased, high-profile crime boss Carlo Gambino. He understands this world to a T.

But by the same token, he himself isn’t involved in crime anymore. He reportedly left the family business to become an author of crime novels.

Moreover, Cohen isn’t expected to serve his time at a tough prison.

“In December, US District Judge William Pauley recommended that Cohen serve his sentence at FCI Otisville, about 70 miles northwest of New York City,” the Daily Mail noted. “The minimum-security camp at Otisville is known as one of the ‘cushiest’ in the federal prison system, and is often requested by Jewish inmates due to the special religious and dietary provisions offered there.”

HERE’S WHAT YOU’RE MISSING …

Cohen has for his part pushed back against allegations that he’s a “rat.”

“I have been smeared as a rat by the President of the United States,” he said. “The truth is much different … I have always tried to live a life of loyalty, friendship, generosity and compassion.”

However,  the term “rat” is a synonym for a “snitch” or “tattle-tale,” i.e., someone who exposes a friend or associate’s crimes or misdeeds for his or her personal gain.

The evidence therefore suggests that Cohen is indeed, for better or worse, a “rat.”

What’s unclear is what’ll happen to this “rat” when he arrives at prison. Given the negative outlook most inmates have of so-called “rats,” Gambino could very well be right about Cohen’s fate:
