Oregon governor touts automatic voter registration as ‘phenomenal success’. What could possibly go wrong?

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown has made it clear she prioritizes so-called “diversity” over the privacy concerns of her own constituents or the integrity of her state’s elections.

Speaking at Politico’s State Solutions Conference on Friday, the governor called her state’s relatively recent automatic voter registration system a “phenomenal success.”

Why? Because it diversified her state’s voter rolls.

Listen:

“What it looks like in terms of the electorate — we move from one of the lowest states in the country in terms of having people of color registered and voting to now number two. We move from a 43 percent turnout in a midterm election 2014 to a 60 percent turnout,” she said.

“The new voters under the automatic voter registration system … are less urban. They are less wealthy, and they are much more diverse than are typical voters that either register online or through the paper process. So it’s been a phenomenal success.”

As for critics of the state’s registration system, Brown said, “I think the good news is, in Oregon, we actually want people to vote in our state.”

The suggestion that states which refuse to implement automatic voter registration don’t want their citizens to vote is wildly incorrect.

Republican-operated states tend to oppose automatic voter registration because it violates their constituents’ privacy rights and also opens the door for voter fraud, which is already a problem.

Regarding privacy, voter rolls are public records, meaning that once someone has been automatically registered — regardless of whether he or she even wants to be registered, let alone even vote — his or her information is shared publicly with the world.

Not everybody is comfortable with their personal information being shared. Some people are just very private, whereas others are concerned about possible voter intimidation.

During the midterm elections last year, for instance, a liberal super PAC sent out mailers to Pennsylvania voters admonishing them for their poor “voting score” and warning that their score would suffer further if they didn’t vote in the then-upcoming elections.

“It had my name on it, my mailing address,” one the recipients, Chuck Erdo, complained to OpenSecrets at the time. “It had my voting record and it said my score was a C. The rest of your neighbors all got Bs and you got a C. And I’m thinking ‘this is baloney. That’s my voting record.’ And here it is, open to who knows how many folks.”

Exactly. And not everybody is comfortable with this transparency.

Automatic voter registration also poses a risk to election integrity, particularly in Oregon, where voters reportedly “need only attest to their citizenship to be allowed to vote.”

And since there’s reportedly “no reliable way to ensure that all registrants are actually U.S. citizens,” the risk of criminal aliens voting in the state’s elections are that much higher.

Not that Brown cares. She’s a virulently far-left legislator who, along with Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum, sued President Donald Trump’s administration last year over his attempt to defend so-called “sanctuary cities” and “sanctuary states.”

This was preceded by her signing a bill in 2017 to protect her state’s criminal aliens from the Trump administration’s immigration policies.

“I will uphold the civil and human rights of all who call Oregon home,” she said at the time. “It is also my duty to prevent any undue harm to our economy and ensure the ability of Oregonians to support their families. These new policies from the White House show no regard for the values Oregonians believe in or the economic realities Oregon faces.”

To her, anyone who calls Oregon home deserves to stay and apparently deserves to vote too. Granted, she’s not alone in her far-left political views. Oregon is, after all, the same state whose legislators are now pushing to allow high school-aged children to vote. That too would be a disastrous move, but again nobody seems to care in Oregon, including Brown.

Why? Well, social media users have some theories:

They had valid points.

It’s long been theorized by conservatives that all Democrats really care about vis-à-vis voting is power. Ergo they cater to criminal aliens, knowing full well that illegals will vote for them if granted the power to vote, and to children, knowing full well that they’re easy to indoctrinate.
