Scandal-plagued former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe reportedly admitted in a recent CBS interview that after disgraced former FBI Director James Comey’s abrupt termination in 2017, he and other Justice Department officials plotted to remove President Donald Trump from office.
“There were meetings at the Justice Department at which it was discussed whether the vice president and a majority of the Cabinet could be brought together to remove the president of the United States under the 25th Amendment,” interviewer Scott Pelley revealed Thursday morning as he recalled some of what McCabe had said during the “60 Minutes” interview set to air Sunday.
“These were the eight days from Comey’s firing to the point that Robert Mueller was appointed special counsel,” he added. “And the highest levels of American law enforcement were trying to figure out what do with the president.”
Listen to his stunning statement below:
While previous reports had already revealed the existence of these clandestine meetings, McCabe’s reported words to Pelley mark the first time any of the participants has ever fessed up.
Word of a potential plot first emerged last September, when sources cited by The New York Times alleged that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein had orchestrated a campaign to secretly record the president and then invoke the 25th Amendment to force him out of office.
Only days into his tenure at the DOJ, which began on April 26, 2017, he reportedly told McCabe that he thought he could convince then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions and then-Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly to participate in the plot, according to the Times’ report.
Rosenstein denied the allegations at the time.
“The New York Times’s story is inaccurate and factually incorrect,” he said. “I will not further comment on a story based on anonymous sources who are obviously biased against the department and are advancing their own personal agenda. But let me be clear about this: Based on my personal dealings with the president, there is no basis to invoke the 25th Amendment.”
Yet not only did McCabe reportedly admit to Pelley that he and Rosenstein had indeed thought about invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Trump, but he further claimed that the deputy AG had offered to personally wear a wire in his meetings with the president.
“It was said at a previous time that the deputy attorney general offered to wear a wire into the White House to record potentially incriminating conversations with the president,” Pelley said.
“A statement was released [by Rosenstein] after that that that was never serious. It was sarcastic, etc. McCabe in our interview said no, it came up more than once, and it was so serious that he took it to the layers at the FBI to discuss it.”
During the interview, McCabe also reportedly admitted to launching “obstruction of justice and counterintelligence investigations involving the president and his ties to Russia,” according to CBS News.
“In his first television interview since his own firing, McCabe tells 60 Minutes’ Scott Pelley he wanted those inquiries to be documented and underway so they would be difficult to quash without raising scrutiny,” the news purveyor reported.
“I was very concerned that I was able to put the Russia case on absolutely solid ground, in an indelible fashion. That were I removed quickly, or reassigned or fired, that the case could not be closed or vanish in the night without a trace,” McCabe reportedly said.
“I was speaking to the man who had just run for the presidency and just won the election for the presidency. And who might have done so with the aid of the government of Russia, our most formidable adversary on the world stage. And that was something that troubled me greatly.”
To date, not a single piece of evidence has surfaced to prove the veritable conspiracy theory that Trump colluded with Russian operatives to affect the outcome of the 2016 presidential election. Mountains of evidence has however been found showing that failed Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, the Democrat National Committee, the media and the Obama administration also colluded to stop Trump from becoming president.
And as of Thursday, evidence now exists showing that even the president’s own officials had once plotted against him. Except according to social media, there’s a word for this sort of “plotting.”
The word for this kind of scheme is “coup.” https://t.co/WtSHuRH1YR

The federal law enforcement arm plotting a coup to remove the President of The United States because he fired one of their buddies. An FBI that’s gotten that big for its britches should be razed to the ground. Sorry, but that’s scary. https://t.co/mnFPLB8Hot

House Intelligence Committee ranking member Rep. Devin Nunes, who’s been fervent in his efforts to expose the “Deep State,” was livid over McCabe’s admissions.
“They were opening up a counterintelligence investigation into a political party based on dirt and research from another political party!” Nunes fumed. “That is something we should never do in this country! Every American should be outraged by this! This is buried by the mainstream media for years! This has gone on two years! It is absolutely absurd!”
