Black Americans aren’t sitting around thinking about the environment. ‘We want our kids to go to college.’

Townhall columnist Kira Davis slammed Democrats for blindly pushing environmental legislation while regular Americans are more concerned with decisions affecting their day-to-day living.

Appearing on Fox News’ “The Next Revolution” with Steve Hilton on Sunday, Davis articulately laid out the real issues Black Americans face during a panel discussion on the “Green New Deal” detailed last week by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other progressive lawmakers.

Hilton unpacked details of the new proposed legislation which calls for basically rebuilding every building in America and making air travel unnecessary as well as seeking net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in 10 years, effectively eliminating all fossil fuel energy production as well as nuclear energy.

Accusing Democrats of alienating many Americans, the Fox News host asked Davis to weigh in after he slammed Democrats for politicizing the issue and making “conservation a hyper-partisan issue and fusing it with extremist policy proposals.”

Davis pointed out that no one actually wants a “bad environment” or “dirty air,” but “handing over the power of your day-to-day decisions to a massive, faceless bureaucracy” is not an option.

She observed that the lack of understanding – by both Republicans and Democrats – about what average Americans are concerned with is a reason President Donald Trump was elected.

“The day-to-day struggles of Americans, most people are not thinking about the environment. What they want are their taxes lowered, what they want is more access to education,” Davis asserted.

“I can tell you that, generally speaking, the black community, we’re not sitting around talking about environmental policy. We want our kids to go to college. We want to be able to put food on the table, we want to be property owners, we want to be productive, contributing citizens to society and we want some of these barriers that have been thrown up against us, by the government and by other issues, removed,” Davis said.

“That is what we want,” she added. “This is another case of the Democrat party being way, way, way out of touch with what the American citizen is worried about.”

Panelist and former Bernie Sanders staffer, Tezlyn Figaro agreed.

“I’m sick of talking about a green deal, but where is the black new deal?” she asked.

“At the end of the day, we have to talk about, if this were to go through, who’s going to get the contracts?” she continued, noting past promises with environmental policies that failed to deliver.

Later in the segment, Davis pointed to a portion of the “Green New Deal” which promises the government will provide “economic security for all who are unable or unwilling to work.”

“I would like to say, I have decided to be in the ‘unwilling to work’ camp,” Davis quipped.
