Republican Chris Christie, the former governor of New Jersey and 2016 presidential candidate, is plugging his new book “Let Me Finish,” and he sat down with Fox New’s Jesse Watters on “Watters’ World” to offer a little insight into the Trump presidency.

Insight that includes behind the scenes drama of him being jettisoned from Team Trump, allegedly by Trump senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

Christie, who didn’t fare well in the 2016 GOP primary went on to endorse then-candidate Donald Trump, spoke with Watters about an infamous exchange with Sen. Marco Rubio during a primary debate that reflected so poorly on the surging Florida lawmaker that many saw it the clearing of the way for Trump.

(Not only did Christie say that he and Rubio are fine today, he added that his former opponent thanked him for learning experience.)

“He was my friend for 15 years at that point but also I campaigned against him,” Christie said of his endorsement of Trump. “I knew he was going to be the Republican nominee and my job, as I saw it, was to endorse him and to go in there and make him the best candidate he could be because we did not Hillary Clinton to be president of the United States.”

Watters asked Christie about claims that he was disloyal to Trump after the Access Hollywood tape dropped, when he refused to fly with the GOP nominee’s team to the second debate against Clinton, and Christie responded by dumping on former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon.

“That’s Steve Bannon who’s just making stuff up, telling me either you’re on the plane or you’re off the team,” he said. Typical Steve drama that was completely made up.”

Christie, who was put in charge of Trump’s transition team, was asked about being in the running for a Trump cabinet position, perhaps attorney general,

“Well, I was in the running for vice president, it came down to me and Mike Pence and he selected Gov. Pence,” he said. “And I love governor Pence and I think he was a good choice. I was then in the running for attorney general.”

Watters interjected to note that Trump picked Jeff Sessions, saying “imagine if Chris Christie had been AG…”

“There’d be no Bob Mueller!” Christie declared, finishing Watters’ sentence for him. “That you could be sure of.”

Christie then dished on being fired from the transition team by Bannon, who he said told him the decision came from Kushner.

“He said it was the kid, referring to Jared Kushner,” Christie recalled. “He said, ‘The kid, he’s been taking an ax to your head ever since I got here with the boss — ancient bitterness.'”

“This goes back to, as I detail in the book, the time in 2004 when I prosecuted Jared’s father,” Christie explained to Watters.

“Once you knew that your father had committed those crimes, that your father had pled guilty, not been found guilty, admitted to the crimes, what else was I supposed to do as a prosecutor?” he said of the prosecution of Charles Kushner.

He also spoke of what he says are the consequences of Kushner’s alleged decision.

“By throwing me out, the president’s still attempting to recover from that with a lot of empty desks, a lot of people who got picked for jobs — like Michael Flynn and Tom Price — and others who had no business being there,” Christie said.
