Adam Levine learns you can’t please the left; tries to explain what highly criticized Super Bowl halftime show was all about

When your first act is to go to social media to explain what you just did, odds are good your message didn’t carry the day.

Adam Levine and Maroon 5 found themselves between a rock and a hard place in performing Sunday’s Super Bowl Halftime Show on Sunday. With the left expecting them to use the stage to deify radical former NFL player Colin Kaepernick, it was a no-win situation where the performance was going to be panned regardless if they came up short.

And while the show really wasn’t that good based on previous halftime shows, we have to keep in mind that Beyonce was recently glorified for her anti-police ode to Black Lives Matters.

Nonetheless, Levine took to Instagram after a performance that was widely criticized to explain what they were trying tried to accomplish — perhaps the real moral here is that trying to walk a fine line between appeasing the radical left and setting politics aside, as so many Americans prefer, leaves you in no mans’ land.

Levine posted an image of the “One Love” light display featured during the show on Instagram — the singer may learn that there is no love when it comes to defying the intolerant left in America.

When we accepted the responsibility to perform at the SBHTS, I took out my pen and just wrote. Some of the words that came to me in that moment eventually made their way onto the incredible lanterns that flew high and low tonight. We thank the universe for this historic opportunity to play on the world’s biggest stage. We thank our fans for making our dreams possible. And we thank our critics for always pushing us to do better. One Love. ❤️ And the list of words is… Forgive Laugh Cry Smile Share Live Endure Embrace Remember Enlighten Preserve Inspire Sweat Fight Express Give Receive Elevate Climb Unify Fortify Soften Dance Scream Dream Educate Provide Inhale Exhale Persevere Stand Kneel Overcome Love Listen

“When we accepted the responsibility to perform at the SBHTS, I took out my pen and just wrote,” the photo caption read. “Some of the words that came to me in that moment eventually made their way onto the incredible lanterns that flew high and low tonight. And we thank our critics for always pushing us to do better. One Love.”

“And the list of words is… Forgive, Laugh, Cry, Smile, Share, Live, Endure, Embrace, Remember, Enlighten, Preserve, Inspire, Sweat, Fight, Express, Give, Receive, Elevate, Climb, Unify, Fortify, Soften, Dance, Scream, Dream, Educate, Provide, Inhale, Exhale, Persevere, Stand, Kneel, Overcome, Love, Listen.”

While this must have been Maroon 5’s vow to pay tribute to Kaepernick through their music, the former player’s attorney ripped Levine, calling it a “cop out.

Levine and his band do deserve credit for largely rising above politics and focusing instead on entertaining. Or trying to entertain.

The NFL did them no favors though, shoving the hard left’s social justice agenda down the throats of Super Bowl LIII viewers every chance they could — between this poor decision and ridiculously poor officiating seen down the stretch of this year’s playoffs, the league has serious issues of its own.

Some artists boycotted the NFL over the perceived bad treatment of Kaepernick and Maroon 5 felt the heat for agreeing to perform.

(Rapper Cardi B claimed to be boycotting, while starring in Super Bowl commercials and performing at other Super Bowl-related events.)

“No one thought about it more than I did. No one put more thought and love into this than I did. … I spoke to many people, most importantly though, I silenced all the noise and listened to myself, and made my decision about how I felt,” Levine said of their participation, according to Fox News.

Sounds like there was a little too much thinking going on… or not enough thinking on the end product, given the outcome.

In addition to featuring Levine and Maroon 5, the halftime show at Mercedes-Benz stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, included rappers Travis Scott and Big Boi of OutKast and a tribute was made to SpongeBob Squarepants creator Stephen Hillenburg, who died in November.

As odd as that mix sounds, it didn’t come across much better onstage.

NBA player  LeBron James, a left-wing social justice warrior in his own right who showed love for Kaepernick leading up to the Super Bowl, took to Twitter to lampoon Maroon 5 while calling for more of Travis Scott.

Levine didn’t help his own cause, though, beginning with a hideous tank top — if only he had put as much thought into his attire as he did his message of love.

And it didn’t get much better when he decided to lose the shirt and go topless, as his bevy of tats left one wondering if he secretly ran off and joined MS-13.
