The husband of singer Pink decided to poke the “parent police” by posting a video of his 7-year-old daughter shooting a rifle.

Carey Hart stirred up debate after posting a video to his Instagram account of daughter, Willow, shooting a .22 rifle, explaining that he has been teaching her to shoot since she was three years old.

“Haven’t poked the parent police bear in a few days,” he wrote. “Willz and I shooting the 22 rifle. She is getting pretty good. Can hit a 12 inch pie plate from 30 yards. Started her shooting at 3yrs old.”

“For the record none of us hunt, just enjoy shooting for sport,” the 43-year wrote in the post about the oldest of the couple’s two children. “I’m raising the kids with knowledge of fire arms, how to handle them, shoot them, store them, and avoid them in uneducated hands. #knowledgeispower”

The video, which has been viewed on Hart’s Instagram account more than 350,000 tines, and his comments sparked a barrage of reactions, with many praising the family’s decision as “well done.”

“Don’t let anyone tell you your doing a bad job with your young lady!” wrote one Instagram user.

“Stand strong. Teaching a child about firearms keeps them safe. It does not make you a questionable parent.” another wrote.

“As a wife of a police officer and firearms instructor I would much rather teach them to respect and be familiar with the guns than to fear them,” one user commented. “Curiosity at one point will happen and thanks to proper education your girl will already have knowledge. Good for you! Now that said medical professional in me says bravo for the ear protection.”

Of course, Hart was lectured by many who disagreed with his parenting decision.

“Encouraging kids to use weapons will just continue the high level of gun related accidents and other problems relating to them being in the hands of people who have bad intentions,” one person commented. “We should get rid of all guns!”

Hart, a former motocross rider, responded to one critic who condemned using his celebrity status to promote guns as people “mimic you.”

“I hope they do mimic me!” Hart fired back. “I hope they spend quality time with their kids, teach them life skills, and education. I’m not sure where you live, but in America fire arms are legal and not going away. So I choose to embrace it. Take the taboo out. Educate them so they don’t become a statistic. Many forms of shooting are an OLYMPIC sport.”

Hart has raised the ire of the “parent police” before, posting a photo last year of himself with then 2-year-old son, Jameson, on a Jet Ski during a family vacation.

“Don’t worry parent police, he is safe and I put him right back in his bubble when we were done,” Hart wrote.
