The wives of Border Patrol agents have extended an invitation to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to come see the U.S. southern border with her own eyes.

Two of the women, whose husbands patrol along the banks of the Rio Grande, spoke with “Fox & Friends” on Monday about the emotional appeal to Pelosi because “we were feeling like we were forgotten.”

The California Democrat was “cordially” invited to visit the Texas border by the group of women in a post on Facebook last week, asking her “to come visit McAllen, TX as President Trump did.”

“We would like to show you around! You don’t need to bring any security detail. Our husbands/boyfriends/fiances/wives/significant others are actually very good at their jobs, thank goodness!” Jill Demanski wrote in the letter.

“We’d also appreciate if you’d stop pretending that you care about federal workers. If you did, you would care for their safety, not just their paychecks. We can hold out a while longer if it means our husbands and communities are safer,” she added in the letter that was posted one day before the president announced a temporary deal to reopen the government.

The deal, which would keep the government funded until Feb. 15 did not include any funding for the wall Trump has been requesting.

Demanski told “Fox & Friends” Monday that she wrote to Pelosi because “it’s really important that our leaders come here and see what’s happening first hand.”

“It’s important to meet with the people who are here on a daily basis, that are witnessing it – the effects of it, that it has on our country,” Demanski said. “We want them to come here and make an informed decision and to see what’s really going on.”

Trump visited the U.S. – Mexico border earlier this month, spending time in the Rio Grande Valley and speaking at a round-table discussion during a stop at a Border Patrol station.

Renea Perez, another Border Patrol wife joining Demanski noted that although they feel safe in Rio Grande Valley because of the job of Border Patrol, they “definitely need a wall or barrier in the high traffic areas.”

“It will allow them to do their job more efficiently and give them more time – if they are by themselves – have another agent meet them. It is definitely needed,” Perez said. “We just want them to come down there on the line and actually see where the whole argument is all about.”

Demanski hoped that if Pelosi accepted the offer she would go out with the agents “right on the line” and see conditions for herself, adding that it is unfair to expect one or two agents to handle hundreds of migrants at the border, citing the recent caravans that have traveled through Mexico to reach the U.S.

Perez noted how difficult the situation has been for them personally in the face of the government shutdown which, at the time, had left her family without pay for weeks. She admitted she was glad that Demanski had written the letter.

“It was kind of written in a time of high emotion. It’s been tough, and at times we have felt like nobody cared about us families, about our agents,” she said. “Bills don’t stop, so we were feeling like we were forgotten.”

Demanski added that the wall is not just something Trump has dreamed up or is advocating alone as her husband and other Border Patrol agents have asked for the barrier for years.

“Border patrol and our agents and experts here have been asking for it for years,” she said. “We finally have a president who has come here and seen first-hand the need for it and has had our back. I don’t know of many presidents who could have gone through the turmoil that he’s gone through.”
