Trump rubs BuzzFeed/HuffPo layoffs in faces of angry journos. Their reactions were priceless.

The makers of fake news got their panties all in a bunch over a tweet from President Donald Trump remarking on the announced layoffs at Huffington Post and BuzzFeed News.

Taking to Twitter, the president suggested “bad journalism” was a contributing factor to the layoffs and reminded media outlets that “people want the truth.”

He tweeted: “Ax falls quickly at BuzzFeed and Huffpost!” Headline, New York Post. Fake News and bad journalism have caused a big downturn. Sadly, many others will follow. The people want the Truth!”

More on the layoffs from The New York Post:

Digital publishers BuzzFeed and Verizon’s HuffPost have wasted no time in implementing the cuts they said were coming earlier this week to accommodate the new financial realities. […]

HuffPost’s parent company, Verizon, said it was chopping 7 percent of the personnel in the Media Group, which also includes Yahoo and AOL. The cuts total about 1,000 people.

BuzzFeed is smaller, but the cuts of about 250 people, or 15 percent of the work force, were implemented almost as soon as they were announced.

To the surprise of no one, many in the media twisted the meaning of Trump’s tweet to condemn him for mocking those who lost their jobs and to claim he was “happy” about the layoffs.

A few samples of the manufactured outrage:

Of course, those crying crocodile tears over the misfortune of friends and colleagues are among the same group that regularly looks the other way as U.S. citizens are cut down in their prime or otherwise victimized by illegal immigrants. The same group that forever exposed its inherent bias while unleashing on Catholic high school boys over a non-incident.

And we need not remind readers that in addition to BuzzFeed News publishing the unverified Russian dossier, the media outlet reported last week that Trump instructed former personal lawyer Michael Cohen to lie to Congress, an impeachable offense. The claim prompted special counsel Robert Mueller’s office to come forward and deny the accuracy of the report.

An astute social media user responded to BuzzFeed’ Ben Smith to note that President Trump “actually laments” that people are out of work and reminded those lashing out that their actions are a “great example” of why journalists are being fired:

There wasn’t a whole lot of sympathy online for those who worked in an industry that has dedicated the better part of the past 2 years trying to destroy the president.

Here’s a sampling of other responses from Twitter:
