Brit Hume finishes Wa-Po’s headline ‘If Ocasio Cortez were a conservative’ by invoking Sarah Palin. He hits a nerve.

Fox News’ Brit Hume, an actual journalist (versus those who just play one on TV), triggered leftists en masse Saturday by comparing know-nothing Democrat starlet Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to former 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

He suggested that were Ocasio-Cortez — a young congressman known for her misstatements, gaffes and abject ignorance — a Republican versus a Democrat, the left would be treating her the exact same way they treated Palin, who was mocked mercilessly over everything she said and did.

“She’d be getting the Sarah Palin treatment,” he wrote in a tweet that linked to a piece by The Washington Post’s one and only genuinely conservative columnist, Marc Thiessen.

Look at his tweet and the backlash it spawned below:

Conservative commentators have relentlessly been calling out Ocasio-Cortez for her frequent lies and appalling lack of knowledge in part because the left keeps covering for her.

“If Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) were a conservative, all anyone would be talking about is how uninformed she is,” Thiessen noted in his piece for The Washington Post.

“She would be facing trick questions from reporters designed to expose her lack of knowledge, and brutal sketches on ‘Saturday Night Live’ mocking her intelligence and fitness for office.”

Instead she’s being heralded as the greatest thing since sliced bread.

“SNL fawns over her, while CBS’s ‘Late Show’ host Stephen Colbert — far from making jokes at her expense – eats ice cream with her and asks how many ‘f—s’ she gives about her critics.”

She’s being treated like a Hollywood star versus a demagogue who lies constantly, makes predictions befitting a TV psychic and harps endlessly about America’s successful capitalist economy.

“So where are the articles bemoaning ‘The incredible, thuggish stupidity of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’?” Thiessen asked, referencing an old article by The Atlantic about Palin:

“Where are the journalists trying to trip her up with questions like ‘Do you agree with the Bush Doctrine?’ to see if she knows what it is? Nowhere to be found.”

In fairness, he wrote, at least some fact-checkers have been on the job. However, for every fact-checker willing to go up against Ocasio-Cortez, there’s been a mainstream media sycophant willing to likewise rush to her defense like a knight in shining armor.

“It is a tremendous testament to America that someone who was working as a bartender in a Mexican restaurant a year ago can throw their hat into the ring, unseat a 10-term member of Congress and be elected to the House of Representatives,” Thiessen’s op-ed concluded.

“It’s what makes this such an exceptional nation. And it is obvious that she has political talent. But that doesn’t excuse her from the responsibilities as a legislator to learn the facts and serve her constituents. Even Whoopi Goldberg, an Ocasio-Cortez supporter, warned her on ‘The View,’ ‘I would encourage you to sit still for a minute and learn the job.'”

“That’s good advice. Once people decide you are ignorant, it’s hard to recover — just ask Sarah Palin or Dan Quayle. Of course, they were conservatives, so the standards are different.”

Indeed. Conservatives are deemed ignorant by default, never mind the legitimacy of their arguments. Democrats are on the other hand presumed to be brilliant and granted the benefit of the doubt time and time again, no matter how many gaffes and misstatements they make.

*cough* Joe Biden *cough*

HERE’S WHAT YOU’RE MISSING …

Former Vice President Joe Biden remains one of the media’s most beloved figures. Go figure.

The only people who still fail to recognize the double standards at play in the media are the sorts of far-leftists who replied to Hume’s tweet by complaining. For the many who do acknowledge the reality of the situation, they of course responded by giving him a veritable thumbs up.
