Marc Lamont Hill, the former CNN pundit fired for comments widely seen as code for the destruction of Israel, not only stood by his words but claimed they represent the views of many progressive Democrats in Congress AND progressive cable news commentators.
Hill was fired after a giving a speech for the U.N.’s International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, where he called for countries to boycott and divest from Israel. During the speech, Hill called for “a free Palestine from the river to the sea.”
The phrase, which refers to the area between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea, is associated with Palestinian extremists who reject Israel control of any land in the region, including the terror group Hamas, which calls for the destruction of Israel.
Hill, a professor of media studies and urban education at Temple University, also said in his speech that we should not “endorse narrow politics that shames Palestinians for resisting,” arguing that non-violent resistance was unfairly limiting the Palestinians in their fight against Israel, according to The Washington Free Beacon.
Speaking on a Intercept podcast “Deconstructed” segment called “What You Can’t Say About Israel,” Hill doubled down on what he said.
“I think I was right,” Hill said of his remarks, tweaking his original words to include Israel.
“I think I was right to use that day and use that speech to challenge the question of human rights and raise the question of human rights and to help us reimagine a world of freedom and safety, peace and self-determination for Palestinian people and for citizens of Israel as well,” he continued.
And he was clear his “free Palestine from the river to the sea” view is common among progressives.
“If I had a dollar for every progressive member of Congress, for every progressive faculty member, for every progressive cable news or otherwise TV commentator who sent me a private message saying, ‘I agree with you,'” Hill said, “I’d have so much money.”
Hill said those who agree with him are afraid to openly says so because of what happened to him.
“You can almost hear the whispers in the message, ‘I agree with you, but, you know, stay strong, but this is why I don’t say anything,'” he said.
The hard-left progressive also said the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, known as BDS, is not anti-Semetic.
“The idea that BDS isn’t anti-Semitic is to me, almost self-evident, Hill claimed.
He also defended civil rights activist Angela Davis.
Davis defended convicted Palestinian terrorist Rasmea Odeh, who assisted in the murder of two Jewish students in a supermarket attack.
