KY prosecutor: Investigations, subpoenas against those who threatened Covington kids ‘already underway’

A Kentucky prosecutor revealed that “terroristic” threats against Covington High School students are being aggressively investigated.

Multiple investigations were already underway when Rob Sanders, the Kenton County prosecutor, spoke with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham on Tuesday.

Sanders spoke on “The Angle” about the charges that could be brought following numerous death threats and even a suspicious package aimed at the Covington Catholic High School after students in MAGA hats at the March for Life in Washington D.C. were labeled by the left as racists for an encounter with a Native American.

Noting the different forms of “terroristic threatening” charges in the state of Kentucky, Sanders pointed to one that specifically focuses on schools and students.

Sanders admitted that investigations into some threats, like those on social media, are more difficult due to state jurisdiction restrictions. But he noted that for felonies, extraditions were possible.

“When it comes to the offenses that rise to the felony level we can extradite,” he told Ingraham.

“Now it’s not as easy as arresting a Twitter handle – we can’t just reach out and arrest someone, half the time they’re using a fake name, fake profile picture, that sort of thing,” Sanders explained. “We have to go through the process of issuing subpoenas, search warrants – ”

“Are you gonna do this?” Ingraham asked.

“It’s already underway. I’ve had detectives in and out of my office all day today,” Sanders replied, adding that in-state threats were being investigated first followed by any that have come from beyond the Kentucky borders.

Sanders also revealed that grand jury subpoenas and search warrants have been issued in an effort to trace people, including getting IP addresses for what devices were used to generate the threats.

“You’ve got to get these people,” Ingraham told the prosecutor. “Someone’s going to get hurt, or someone’s going to get killed” if they don’t go to jail.

The high school closed its doors Tuesday amid threats of mass shootings and bomb attacks and reopened Wednesday with increased security. A video posted on Twitter Thursday alleged that a woman was across the street from the school filming students as they left the building.
