‘We are here for you’: James Woods gets Trump’s personal attention for touching, devoted ‘thank-you’

Outspoken actor James Woods has become an important voice on the right, drawing needed attention to important issues of the day and offering an enjoyable counter to the liberal narrative in America that passes as the news cycle.

With nearly 2 million followers, his sharp wit and bold tongue serve as both a means of entertainment and a reliable source for truthful information. This, along with his staunch support for President Donald Trump, makes Woods a frequent target of the left.

And Trump appreciates Woods’ efforts, as he personally replied to a tweet from the actor supporting the president’s proposal Saturday to reopen the government.

“Thanks James!” the president tweeted on Sunday.

Trump’s address to the nation on the crisis on the southern border was seen by many supporters as the most “presidential” he has appeared since taking office and Woods took note of that as he thanked the president for his efforts.

“Both your speech and your proposal today were eminently presidential. Thank you for your efforts to protect our nation and our Constitution,” he tweeted.

In responding to Trump’s show of appreciation, Woods captured the very essence of what drives his popularity among conservatives.

Showing a reverence for this nation and the president, Woods was still quick to call a spade a spade, naming the “vitriol of Democrats and their media lackeys,” which has become a constant in the Trump presidency.

“I’m honored, Mr. President,” Woods tweeted. “Those of us who respect your determination to keep campaign promises marvel at your ability to weather the vitriol of #Democrats and their media lackeys. We are devoted to this nation and your love for it. We are here for you.

As he frequently does, the actor nailed what the shutdown battle is all about. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer know that if they can get Trump to cave on his campaign promise to build a wall to enhance much-needed border security, it could negatively impact the strong support he enjoys from his base.

Trump proposed a deal to reopen the government Saturday that included a three-year extension of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and a three-year extension of Temporary Protected Status for some 300,000 facing expiration.

This was part of what Trump proposed in exchange for $5.7 billion he has requested to build a barrier on the southern border with Mexico.

“That’s our plan,” the president said. “Border security, DACA, T.P.S. Many other things. Straightforward, fair, reasonable and common sense with lots of compromise.”

Typical of Democrats, Pelosi rejected Trump’s offer even before he put voice to it.
