Media shuts out prominent Hispanic pastor who agrees with Trump on border

The national media appears to have little interest in Ramiro Peña, the Texas pastor who remains one of President Donald Trump’s most prominent Hispanic evangelical supporters and advisers.

Much like a recent PBS/NPR poll that showed 50 percent of Latino adults approve of Trump’s job as president, up a whopping 19 points from December, the media has not been eager to cover Peña’s significant role, which included advising the president on the crisis over U.S. border security.

“The deliberate suppression of Pastor Peña’s views, which are shared by tens of millions of people throughout the country, was especially glaring when President Trump recently visited South Texas,” reported MCR’s Newsbuster.

Peña was given a platform to speak during Trump’s visit, but his words did not see much coverage — in large part because he echoes the sentiments Trump has been saying all along, that there is a humanitarian crisis on the US-Mexico border.

“I especially want to thank you for calling this what it is: a humanitarian crisis,” Peña told the president in his remarks. “When you use that language it really sets bells to ringing, because that is what it is. People in my profession see the suffering, the human suffering, brought by drugs, by the arms that are brought across making our communities more violent, the trafficking of women and children especially, and boys and young males as well.”

This coming from a man of the cloth, contradicting Democrats’ insistence that there is no crisis on the southern border — a nonsensical claim carried far and wide by the same press that ignores the pastor.

Peña highlighted the “seldom talked about” truth of the under-reporting of crime on the border, saying that “Spanish-speaking pastors in this sector, know firsthand the human suffering, the human toll that’s taking place because of the onslaught.”

His praise of Trump is counter to the accepted political narrative that he’s heartless, which explains why the pastor draws no media coverage.

“I know your heart of compassion. Although some don’t want to paint you as having a heart of compassion, I know you as a man that does have this heart of compassion,” Peña told Trump. “It’s genuine and authentic, and the fact that you called it what it is: it’s a crisis and a humanitarian crisis, and again the pastors that I’m here representing today salute you and thank you for wanting to bring an end to untold suffering that’s taking place on our southern border.”

Back to the poll on the increase in Hispanic support, Trump took to social media on Sunday to equate it to support for his call for a wall to enhance border security.

“Wow, just heard that my poll numbers with Hispanics has gone up 19%, to 50%,” he tweeted. “That is because they know the Border issue better than anyone, and they want Security, which can only be gotten with a Wall.”
