Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, a House Democrat known for trotting out false “facts,” stated without pushback Thursday evening on MSNBC that President Donald Trump seeks a wall along the southern U.S. border because he wants to make America racially “pure.”
“This has never been about a wall,” she confidently asserted to host Chris Hayes. “He actually could have gotten funding a year ago for a wall. It was part of a deal that was proposed.”
“Not all of us agreed with that deal, but it was proposed to him, and he turned it down because his ultimate goal is — as you said — to make America ‘pure’ in the sense of not having immigrants, not having folks of color here, and shutting down every form of legal immigration.”
Listen:
Note how she attributed the idea of Trump wanting “to make America ‘pure'” to Hayes. Though the media describe him as a “journalist,” his increasingly partisan rhetoric has shown him to be a virulently biased left-wing commentator / Democrat Party operative.
As for the rest of Jayapal’s statement, it contained a mixture of fact and fiction.
During a shutdown battle at the start of the year, the president did indeed reject a spending bill that would have provided him with $20 billion for the border wall. What the congresswoman conveniently neglected to mention was that the bill would have also mandated that nearly a million criminal aliens be granted permanent protection from deportation.
The president rejected the deal presumably because he believes no criminal act should be rewarded, including the criminal act of violating America’s federal immigration laws.
However, never once has the president suggested or made any attempts to shut down “every form of legal immigration.” Nor is it clear why Jayapal has conflated illegal immigration, which a majority of Americans oppose, with legal immigration, which the president vociferously supports.
In fact, two years ago the president recorded a video message for newly naturalized citizens, much to the proud new citizens’ immense surprise and enduring gratitude.
“My dear fellow American. It is with great pride that I welcome you into the American family. No matter where you come from, or what faith you practice, this country is now your country,” he said.
Watch:
The congresswoman’s inability or refusal to separate legal immigration from illegal immigration speaks to the growing Democrat Party belief that every foreigner seeking entry into the United States should be allowed in, regardless of his/her motivations and his/her ties to criminality.
“What’s interesting, Chris, is that if you look at where immigration fared in the 2018 elections, we actually found people turning away from [Trump’s] view, that it was too racist, too bigoted, too xenophobic, and people coming over,” Jayapal continued in her discussion with Hayes.
That’s false.
“The American people voted out of office a large number of low-enforcement, high-immigration politicians of both parties,” Roy Beck, the executive director of NumbersUSA, noted at the time.
In other words, those politicians who see nothing wrong with illegal immigrant and/or poorly regulated legal immigration were completely wiped out during the 2018 midterm elections.
1/3 Final thought for the nights: The American people voted out of office a large number of low-enforcement, high-immigration politicians of both parties who earned an “F” grade from NumbersUSA.

Moreover, exit polling from CNN showed that 48 percent of voters thought Trump’s immigration policies are either “about right” or not tough enough, while an equal 48 percent felt otherwise.
The notion that a majority of Americans think the president’s immigration policies are racist, bigoted or xenophobic is therefore patently false, not that this fact stopped Jayapal from continuing to trot out lies and/or dubious narratives that don’t tell the full story.
“I just have to say, as an immigrant myself, it is do deeply offensive to see the harm that he’s causing to people across the country, people who are terrified, who don’t feel that they belong,” she said.
It’s unclear why she doesn’t feel the same compassion for the innumerable minorities and immigrants who’ve been mocked, derided and/or harassed for being proud supporters of the president.
“The people who are seeking asylum, who no longer can get in, even though it’s legal to seek asylum, and not just at a legal port of entry,” she continued.
She neglected to mention that U.S. Border Patrol agents are being overwhelmed by the growing influx of migrants, to the point that it’s becoming substantially more difficult to care for them.
Listen to the rest of her diatribe below:
“You know, all of the people who have come to this country because of what we represent, the deep harm that is being done and the violence that’s being committed against Muslims through hate crimes, against Latinos, against folks of color; there is real damage, not only to real people, but also our soul and our psyche,” the left-wing Democrat politician concluded.
Most hate crime victims continue to be Jews. And according to FBI data released in 2017, racially motivated offenses committed against whites are the fastest growing hate crimes in America.
The response on social media to the congresswoman’s bizarre, mostly nonfactual and exceedingly race-baity rhetoric has not been positive.

Spot the mind-reading in this interview. (It won't be hard.) This representative should be impeached for her racist behavior. https://t.co/KZA5NbSfxG

People like you are the race baiting individuals who are trying to divide this country all for your bigoted viewpoints. How anyone could vote you into office is beyond comprehension.

This is a disgusting untrue statement. How do you have a job in our Congress? Hard to shock me but your hateful race baiting did
— tifinblm (@tifinblm) January 11, 2019
Weak rationalization, and your race baiting on msnbc was pitiful.
— Geomac (@GeorgeMcMillen) January 11, 2019
This is a despicable and untrue thing to say about anyone, much less the @POTUS.
I hope her constituents recognize how deeply disturbing it is for a Congresswoman who they duly elected to spew reckless, race-baiting, unfounded comments about another citizen on national tv ?

you’re the racist! What the heck is wrong with you democrats? Constantly race baiting and trying to divide our country? I don’t even recognize the country I live in anymore. It is absolutely mindboggling the garbage the MSM is allowing with no pushback. It’s offensive!!! STOP!

— Kelly T (@ktellmemore) January 11, 2019
Youre lying. Trump is concerned with Americans. Americans elected him to secure our borders. We understand our tax dollars are being spent on people who are abusing the system.
