Leftist social media users melted down in real time Tuesday when the Associated Press made the allegedly grievous mistake of trying to fact-check members of the Democrat Party.
In a tweet posted that afternoon, the AP fact-checked the dubious Democrat claim that only President Donald Trump deserves to shoulder blame for the ongoing government shutdown.
“AP FACT CHECK: Democrats put the blame for the shutdown on Trump. But it takes two to tango. Trump’s demand for $5.7 billion for his border wall is one reason for the budget impasse. The Democrats refusal to approve the money is another,” the news purveyor wrote.

Last month the then-GOP-controlled House passed an omnibus spending bill on behalf of the president that included funding for his desired southern U.S. border wall. The shutdown was triggered shortly thereafter because of Senate Democrats’ refusal to support the bill.
According to the AP, both Trump and congressional Democrats deserve equal blame for the shutdown because both sides played a role in causing it to occur. The outlet was trying to be fair and balanced, which is a notable improvement from its usually very far-left reporting.
But for this — for trying to be fair and balanced — the AP soon came under heavy assault on social media from Trump Derangement Syndrome-suffering leftists outraged by its impartiality.
One leftist drew a false equivalence between the president of the United States asking Congress for money and an armed robber demanding that a bank cashier hand him “all the money”:

The irony is that the argument could easily be made that Democrats are the ones who deserve all the blame. Why? Because of their obstinate refusal to listen to the facts, let alone negotiate.
For instance, last week the president invited House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to the White House for a discussion about the ongoing shutdown.
But the moment the president turned the microphone over to Homeland Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen so she could some facts about the border crisis, Pelosi and Schumer shut down the discussion.
I am disappointed that Dems did not want to hear from @DHSgov about the security & humanitarian crisis we are facing at the border. They didn’t want to hear about criminal aliens, drug smugglers, smuggled & abused children or violent caravans trying to breach the border wall.

During an Oval Office address Tuesday, Trump addressed this stubborn refusal to listen and negotiate.
“To those who refuse to compromise in the name of border security, I would ask, imagine if it was your child, your husband, or your wife whose life was so cruelly shattered and totally broken,” he said. “To every member of Congress: pass a bill that ends this crisis. To every citizen, call Congress, and tell them to finally, after all of these decades, secure our border.”
He also invited Pelosi and Schumer back to the White House for another meeting.
