Conservative commentator Ann Coulter thinks it’s “moronic” for President Donald Trump to go through with his plan to visit the U.S.-Mexico border this week.
Though a vocal supporter of a border wall, Coulter believes the president making a trip to the border is an unnecessary waste of time, as she took to Twitter Monday to mock the decision.

“Trump GOING TO THE BORDER is beyond moronic,” the New York Times best-selling author tweeted shortly after Trump’s own tweet announced his plans. “Does he need to meet with a cancer patient before deciding to fund cancer research?”

Earlier on Monday, the president announced he would be addressing the nation on Tuesday about the “crisis on our Southern Border.”
I am pleased to inform you that I will Address the Nation on the Humanitarian and National Security crisis on our Southern Border. Tuesday night at 9:00 P.M. Eastern.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders also announced that Trump will travel to the U.S.-Mexico border “to meet with those on the frontlines.”

Coulter slammed the president’s planned trip amid a partial government shutdown in a series of tweets, comparing it to “politicians who switch positions on gay marriage after talking to a gay person.”
Trump GOING TO THE BORDER is like politicians who switch positions on gay marriage after talking to a gay person. Did they hate gays before? These are public policy issues, not coffee klatches.

Border Patrol Agents are the LAST people who should be commenting on the need for a wall: “What do you think about us installing an inanimate object that can do your job better than you can?”

“What will Trump GOING TO THE BORDER accomplish? I’ve been to a hospital. That doesn’t make me a doctor,” the 57-year-old syndicated columnist tweeted.

Coulter contended that the president’s Oval Office speech two days before his trip needs to make the case for why a border wall is “the only compassionate solution.”
We need 1 thing from President Trump: A serious Oval Office speech explaining why a Wall is the only compassionate solution.

Trump’s plans for the week come as the partial government shutdown has dragged on for nearly three weeks as the president’s request for more than $5 billion in funding to build a physical barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border has been rejected by Democrats.
In an interview with radio host Mark Simone last week, Coulter warned if Trump “doesn’t build the wall, the next president will be a Democrat.” She also believed the president “will fold in the end.”
In another interview on SiriusXM Patriot’s “Breitbart News Tonight,” Coulter decried those who oppose a border wall as “selfish” people who “are in it for the votes.”
“The wall is the compassionate solution,” Coulter said. “The people who don’t want a wall are absolutely selfish, they are in it for themselves. They are in it for the cheap labor, they are in it for the votes.”
They don’t care about African Americans, they don’t care about Hispanic Americans,” she continued. “They don’t care about the most voiceless Americans out there who are dying from heroin, who can’t support their families because they can’t get a good paying job because they’re being undercut by illegal aliens and all the cheap labor, legally, at the same time … they have no compassion for the women and children being raped and abused by the cartels.”
“This is a national emergency for the people who don’t have lobbyists in Washington,” Coulter said.
