Chris Wallace has definitely taken a side on border safety in so-called interview with Sarah Sanders

It appears Fox News host Chris Wallace has chosen sides on border safety.

If you listen to his pushback during what was supposed to be an interview with White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders,  nobody should worry about terrorists coming across the country’s unprotected southern border.

The oftentimes left-leaning host asserted this multiple times during a heated debate Sunday morning with White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders regarding the ongoing shutdown.

The host’s core thesis appeared to be that President Donald Trump should capitulate to Democrat demands vis-à-vis the shutdown because it’s hurting too many people, and because the president’s concerns about terrorists streaming across the border are allegedly overblown.

Listen to part one of the discussion below from FOX News Sunday:

Regarding his first assertion, Wallace cited reports that recipients of food stamps may face a reduction in their unearned benefits come February, and that those Americans slated to receive a tax refund after they file their taxes may be forced to wait until the shutdown ends to receive their check.

“The president certainly doesn’t want any of those things to happen, but you know what else he doesn’t want to see happen?” Sanders replied. “He never wants to make a phone call like the one he made earlier this week, where he spoke to Officer Singh of California’s widow because an illegal immigrant came across our border and killed him in cold blood.”

Late last month an illegal immigrant who benefited from California’s “sanctuary city” laws murdered a legal immigrant police officer named Ronil Singh.

Around this same time, the GOP-led House passed an omnibus spending bill that included funding for the wall that the president seeks along the southern U.S. border.

Because Senate Democrats refused to support the bill, the government entered into a partial shutdown. According to Democrats and their media allies, including Wallace, it’s contingent on Trump to end the shutdown by abandoning his proposed wall. But according to Trump and his officials, including Sanders, the opposite is true: It’s contingent on Democrats to stop blocking the omnibus bill.

Listen to part two of the discussion below:

Unable to respond to Sanders’ point, Wallace then brought up claims by the Department of Homeland Security that terrorists have been crossing into the U.S. via the southern border.

In a statement last week, Homeland Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen noted that U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents have in stopped over 3,000 “special interest aliens” from crossing into the U.S.

“Those are aliens who the intel community has identified are of concern,” she said. “They either have travel patterns that are identified as terrorist travel patterns or they have known or suspected ties to terrorism.”

Wallace took issue with this claim.

“But special interest aliens are just people who have come from countries that have ever produced a terrorist, they’re not terrorists themselves,” he said, adding that a State Department report from last year found “there was no credible evidence of any terrorist coming across the border from Mexico.”

The term “special interest alien” has different meanings to different departments within the U.S. Likewise, different departments have different goals and mission standards. Ergo, the State Department’s report is irrelevant to what Nielsen said, as Sanders tried to note.

“We know that roughly nearly 4,000 known or suspected terrorists come into our country illegally, and we know that our most vulnerable point of entry is the southern border,” she said before being cut off by Wallace.

“I know the statistic. I didn’t know if you’re going to use it, but I studied up on this. Do you know where those 4,000 people are captured?” he asked, before adding that they arrived into the U.S. via airports.

While this may be true, the press secretary noted that this doesn’t negate the need to secure the border.

“It’s by air it’s by land it’s by sea, it’s all of the above, but one thing that you’re forgetting is at the most vulnerable point of entry that we have into this country is our southern border. You have to protect it, and the more and more that individuals know that …,” she said before being cut off again.

“But they’re not coming across the southern border, Sarah, they’re coming and they’re being stopped at airports,” Wallace clamored, making it clear he genuinely believes no terrorist has ever crossed into the United States by sidling across the porous border.

Listen to the rest of the discussion below:

Wallace then switched topics again to ask whether Trump meant it last week when he indicated he’d be willing to keep the government shutdown indefinitely to ensure the wall is funded.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’RE MISSING …

“Well, I think that’s one of the things that people misunderstand — the president’s not fighting for the wall, he’s fighting for the protection of American citizens,” Sanders replied.

Exactly.

It’s the president who wants to protect the American people from the death, disease and destruction wrought by illegal immigrants, while it’s the Democrats and their media allies, including Chris Wallace, who it seems would rather let illegal immigrants and terrorists keep crossing into the U.S., because God forbid anybody be forced to wait for his or her tax refund.

Social media’s reaction to Wallace’s seemingly left-wing rhetoric wasn’t pleasant:
