Incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi dismissed criticism of her Hawaii getaway over Christmas while insulting President Donald Trump’s faith.
In an interview with NBC’s “Today” show on Thursday, the California Democrat waved away her decision to vacation in Hawaii as the government faced a partial shutdown as “unimportant.”
“You had said before the shutdown that [Trump] was being quite cavalier and maybe the shutdown would give him more time to golf,” host Savannah Guthrie said to Pelosi. “But in the end, it was you that took a holiday.”
Pelosi became immediately defensive.
“I observed the Christmas holiday for a few days and in fact cut in half the time I would have had with my family,” she replied.
“Is that a cheap shot?” Guthrie asked.
“It’s not important, it’s totally unimportant,” Pelosi fired back. “The fact is that we all stood ready and told our members that we would have 24 hours notice for all be where we need to be.”
“And the president may not know this, but Hawaii is part of the United State of America, maybe he doesn’t realize that,” she continued with her snarky tone. “I don’t know if the president observes the religious holiday of Christmas, do you?”
As a matter of fact, senator, he does.

The president scrapped plans to vacation at his Palm Beach, Florida resort for Christmas, opting to remain in the White House pending the possibility of a deal with Congress to end the shutdown.
I am all alone (poor me) in the White House waiting for the Democrats to come back and make a deal on desperately needed Border Security. At some point the Democrats not wanting to make a deal will cost our Country more money than the Border Wall we are all talking about. Crazy!

First lady Melania Trump returned from Palm Beach on Christmas Eve and joined her husband for a service at the National Cathedral, after taking children’s phone calls to NORAD.
The National Cathedral is only a few short miles from the White House.
The president remarked about his time alone, telling reporters Wednesday that he felt “very safe” there with all of “the machine gunners.”

“I was here on Christmas evening, I was all by myself in the White House. That’s a big, big house. Except for all the guys out on the lawn with machine guns… I was waving to them. I never saw so many guys with machine guns in my life. Secret Service and military. These are great people,” Trump said.
