Late last week President Donald Trump announced that he would be cancelling his scheduled Christmas vacation trip to Mar-a-Lago in Florida to remain in Washington, D.C., and fight on behalf of the American people for the construction of a wall along the U.S. southern border.

Roughly one week later, acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney confirmed to Fox News that the president would also be cancelling his scheduled New Year’s vacation trip to Mar-a-Lago.

“He’s staying in Washington, D.C., over New Year’s. He’s canceled his plans for Christmas. Now, he’s canceled his plans for New Year’s,” he said Friday morning to the hosts of “Fox & Friends.”

Mulvaney made the announcement while speaking about the murder earlier this week of a  a 33-year-old upstanding California police officer and legal immigrant named Ronil Singh.

The amount of fun and good times the president will undoubtedly miss out on by skipping his annual New Year’s celebration in Mar-a-Lago cannot be overstated. The president and his family have celebrated New Year’s at the lavish, upscale resort for years.

The president’s decision to skip his holiday celebrations is tied to the ongoing government shutdown.

Last week House Republicans passed a spending bill that included funding for the wall. Because of Democrat obstruction in the Senate by Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, the bill remains stalled. The government entered into a partial shutdown last Saturday morning as a result.

But whereas most members of Congress have already left D.C. and taken to partying at their own preferred luxury resorts, Trump has chosen to remain in town and keep fighting.

“I am all alone (poor me) in the White House waiting for the Democrats to come back and make a deal on desperately needed Border Security,” the president tweeted on Christmas Eve.

“At some point the Democrats not wanting to make a deal will cost our Country more money than the Border Wall we are all talking about. Crazy!”

The photos below are from the president’s 2016 New Year’s celebration. They were taken a month after he crushed Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election:

And yes, that was famed actor Sylvester Stallone. While the actor has never been very political, he did make it clear during the election that he loved Trump.

“I love Donald Trump. He’s a great Dickensian character. You know what I mean? There are certain people like Arnold [Schwarzenegger], Babe Ruth, that are bigger than life. But I don’t know how that translates to running the world,” he said with a laugh.

According to observers, the event was a “wild night.”

Look:

Because there appears to be no end in sight to the ongoing government shutdown, the president may very well wind up spending his entire holiday season at the White House.

He’s made it clear he won’t sign any spending bill that doesn’t contain at least $5 billion for his proposed southern U.S. border wall. Democrats have likewise insisted they’ll never provide this funding.

It remains unknown why the Democrats remain so stubbornly unwilling to compromise on border security, especially given the murder this week of Newman Police Department Cpl. Ronil Singh, a legal immigrant from Fiji, by a criminal alien. But not just any criminal alien.

Suspect Gustavo Perez Arriaga had previously been arrested for DUIs when Singh pulled him over during a traffic stop Wednesday. But because of California’s “sanctuary city” laws, local authorities had been prohibited from transferring Arriaga into the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The county sheriff of the California community where Singh was killed noted in several statements this week that Singh would still be alive were it not for the state’s misguided laws.

“This is a criminal illegal alien with prior criminal activity that should have been reported to ICE,” Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson said following Arriaga’s arrest Friday. “We were prohibited, law enforcement was prohibited because of sanctuary laws and that led to the encounter with Singh.”

“I’m suggesting that the outcome could have been different if law enforcement wasn’t restricted, prohibited or had their hands tied because of political interference.”

Political interference no different than that of Chuck Schumer and his Democrat pals.
