If there was ever any doubt that Democrats were putting politics over the nation’s security in the battle of the border wall, a resurfaced video can put that to rest.
As top Democratic leaders continue to play a game of chicken with President Trump over funding a wall at the southern U.S. border, videos resurfaced showing Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer arguing in the past in favor of stopping illegal immigration
“One of the most effective things we do on the border is turn people back…they get up to the border and we find them and say, ‘go home!’” The New York Democrat said on the senate floor in the 2013 clip.

The Daily Wire’s Ryan Saavedra posted the video along with another nugget from 2009 in which Schumer spoke about an immigration reform package he was hoping would be passed.
“The American people need to know that, because of our efforts in Congress, our border is far more secure today than it was when we began debating comprehensive immigration reform in 2005,” Schumer said. “Between 2005 and 2009, a vast amount of progress has been made on our borders and ports of entry.”
Chuck Schumer in 2009:
-Americans don’t like illegal immigration
-“Illegal immigration is wrong”
-People illegally in the U.S. are “illegal aliens,” not “undocumented”
-Border fence made the southern border “far more secure…created a significant barrier to illegal immigration” pic.twitter.com/zoVyEgdrTC— Ryan Saavedra (@RealSaavedra) December 28, 2018
“This progress includes … construction of 630 miles of border fence that create a significant barrier to illegal immigration on our southern land border,” Schumer added.
The Gang of Eight comprehensive immigration reform bill in 2013 included a call for 700 miles of fencing along the border as part of a wider package of measures on border security. The bill passed in the Senate with 68 votes and unanimous support from Democrats – many of whom are still in office today, denouncing Trump’s call for a border wall.
In an op-ed this week, Byron York, the chief political correspondent for the Washington Examiner, wrote:
The Gang of Eight bill passed the Senate in June 2013, five and a half years ago. Now, many Democrats say there are no circumstances under which they would support President Trump’s proposal for a border wall — even if it is in fact a fence, or barrier, or whatever Democrats would prefer to call it. Many observers have noted that the Democratic Party has changed dramatically in the last half-dozen years or so, and one of the areas in which that change has been most pronounced is immigration. On that issue, the party has moved far left.
Democrats continue to play politics with the safety and security of America’s citizens, even as House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi relaxes at a luxury resort in Hawaii in the middle of a government shutdown she helped create.
In his threat to close the US-Mexico border and cut off aid to Central American countries, Trump tweeted about a new caravan supposedly forming in Honduras.
We will be forced to close the Southern Border entirely if the Obstructionist Democrats do not give us the money to finish the Wall & also change the ridiculous immigration laws that our Country is saddled with. Hard to believe there was a Congress & President who would approve!

…..Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador are doing nothing for the United States but taking our money. Word is that a new Caravan is forming in Honduras and they are doing nothing about it. We will be cutting off all aid to these 3 countries – taking advantage of U.S. for years!

Fox News host Laura Ingraham also noted the new caravan forming.
Report today that another, far larger, caravan assembling in Honduras of as many as 15,000 people. About 1,000 illegals released every week. Will Pelosi & Schumer do nothing? McConnell? Hello?
— Laura Ingraham (@IngrahamAngle) December 28, 2018
As many as 15,000 migrants are expected to be part of a new, larger caravan which is set to travel north from Honduras in mid-January, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune.
“Will Pelosi & Schumer do nothing?” Ingraham tweeted.
