According to CNN, a network known for its bizarre take on current events, the real president of the United States is conservative commentator Ann Coulter, not Donald Trump. How so? Because she’s allegedly to blame for the ongoing government shutdown.
And so to resolve the shutdown, Republicans should look to Coulter for guidance, CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin argued Friday evening to network host Wolf Blitzer.
“What they should be doing, obviously, is checking with Ann Coulter, because apparently, she’s the President of the United States, as far as this is concerned,” he said.
Watch the bizarre discussion below:
Coulter was among the legions of Trump’s supporters who ripped into him last week after White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders appeared to suggest the administration planned to compromise with congressional Democrats over funding for his desired border wall.
“We have other ways that we can get to that five billion. … At the end of the day we don’t want to shut down the government,” Sanders said last Tuesday on Fox News.
The president’s supporters interpreted this as Trump backing down from his promise to secure the border with a wall by means necessary. Because Democrats are slated to retake control of the House in January, Republicans have one last chance to fund the wall.

So Trump appears to be caving on the wall. Great, how many times is he gonna cave and not come through on his biggest promise to his voters like me. This is the type of shit that pisses me off. https://t.co/4PfaPn0P7F

If this is how @realDonaldTrump plans on getting reelected, it won’t work.

Sound like to me the White House buckled to Chucky! What the fuck is wrong with Republicans? What damn good does it to have the Senate, Congress and the supreme court if they always buckle to the Democrats every damn time!

In other words he’s backing down. Again.

Trump caved. Again. There will be no Wall. No Wall=No Vote for DJT in 2020. Bye, bye, Mr. President. Enjoy Davos.

There are an untold number of similar tweets still archived on Twitter.
Perhaps in response to the scathing backlash, the president changed his mind at the last minute, deciding to reject a planned omnibus bill that would have funded the government but not included any funding for the wall sought by his nearly 63 million supporters.
House Republicans responded by crafting a new bill that included wall funding and near-miraculously passing it Thursday evening, much to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s shock.
The bill now remains in limbo in the Senate, where Majority Leader Mitch McConnell reportedly lacks enough votes to approve it and send it to the president to be signed.
And because Congress failed to submit any spending bill to the president by Saturday, the government has entered a partial shutdown and will remain in this state until a bill is passed.
Senator Mitch McConnell should fight for the Wall and Border Security as hard as he fought for anything. He will need Democrat votes, but as shown in the House, good things happen. If enough Dems don’t vote, it will be a Democrat Shutdown! House Republicans were great yesterday!

Toobin maintains that political commentators like Coulter are to blame.
“Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter started challenging the president’s manhood. And the House Republicans started stamping their feet,” he whined Saturday to host Wolf Blitzer.
“And the president decided, ‘No, no, no, I’m going to scream and yell and shut down the government, even though I still don’t have the votes.’ So I guess Ann Coulter has to figure out how this is all going to end, because she’s the person who is driving the federal government at this point. God help us.”
Except nothing Toobin said makes any sense or fits with the facts. First, Pelosi insulted Trump’s manhood, not Ingraham or Coulter. Second, the two’s criticism of the president represent just a sliver of the total backlash he received last week during his purported moment of weakness.
A poll conducted a Marist College poll conducted late last month and early this month found that an overwhelming 65 percent majority of the president’s supporters believed he shouldn’t compromise with Democrats on border wall funding.
Thus, to insinuate that the president rejected Congress’s original funding bill because of just two people — one of whom Toobin claims is America’s real president — seems foolish.
In fact, it almost seems like fake news, especially given this factoid noted by Coulter herself:
If that were true, we’d have a wall. https://t.co/maCsiPRSdA

Good point.
I’ve realized the more stupid they think we are—the more stupid they get. There problem is we are not stupid! So they get caught holding the stupidity bag! Fake News. https://t.co/9QJWtWgGxd

@JeffreyToobin you are a TOOL ! @CNN you are FAKE NEWS !

So says an anti-American “progressive” leftist troll who works for the network that produces more fake news than any other…
CNN’s Toobin: ‘God Help Us’ — Ann Coulter ‘Is Driving the Federal Government at this Point’ https://t.co/IrsUPxZTTV
— Michael J. Fell (@MichaelJFell) December 22, 2018
Toobin’s rhetoric also makes no sense because it’s Senate Democrats who’re preventing the current omnibus bill from being passed.
The Democrats now own the shutdown!
