Man, deported in 2014, goes on ‘reign of terror,’ shooting, killing, robbing and crashing into cars intentionally

A man who had been deported in 2014 went on a “personal reign of terror” Monday that ultimately lead to his own death, but not before he killed a gas station attendant and shot two others.

Gustavo Garcia, 36, went on a deadly shooting, carjacking and robbery rampage in California, before killing himself during a high-speed highway chase during which he intentionally tried to smash into other cars, The Fresno Bee reported.

It was reported that Garcia had been in trouble with immigration officials on several occasions and was deported in 2014, authorities didn’t know his recent immigration status — it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to presume that he was in the U.S. illegally.

“We have one man that essentially (has) been on a personal reign of terror,” Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux said during a news conference.

A reign of terror that began Sunday and included random attacks on strangers, with Garcia killing a man at a gas station convenience store, shooting a farmworker in an orchard and a woman at a motel, carjacking and robbing a convenience store, Boudreaux said, according to The Bee.

The woman shot at the motel reportedly was targeted for making eye contact with the deranged criminal.

“It appears his rampage and his acts of violence were random and they were not chosen targets, which makes it even more dangerous,” Boudreaux said. “This person was targeting anyone who got in the way.”

It’s not clear what set the rampage in motion, which included a gun battle with police, but authorities said Garcia may have been distraught over some relationship breakup — he also fired shots in the backyard of his ex-girlfriend’s home while she was inside with her children.

The sheriff said that in addition to his immigration troubles, Garcia had an extensive criminal history that included drug arrests, assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Garcia died when he was flung from a stolen truck after a gun battle with police and wrong-way car crashes with four cars, which left one driver in critical condition and three others with minor injuries.
