CNN analyst on Dem 2020 contenders: Not sure it’s time to ‘nominate a white man.’ But, Kamala checks both ‘boxes’

According to many at CNN, the electability of potential 2020 Democrat primary candidates is best judged not by each candidate’s beliefs and policies but rather by his or her physical characteristics.

CNN political analyst Harry Enten made this abundantly clear Wednesday during a segment on who’s most likely to win and deserves to win the 2020 nomination.

He started the segment by talking about Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s chances, saying, “She has a number of things going for her: She has the large New York media market, she has the most anti-Trump record of any United States senator, she’s a woman.”

Why should her gender matter?

Continuing along to former Obama administration official Julian Castro, Enten made it a point to praise the Democrat politician for his race but criticize him for his gender:

“He’s a Latino, he was in the Obama administration, he ran HUD. He’s an interesting character. But I think in the year of the women I’m a little suspect of having too many men in the upper tier.”

Listen to part one of the segment below:

The entire segment from beginning to end contained similar statements that reeked of blatant identity politics — particularly against whites and men, respectively — not to mention ageism.

“Another white male,” he lamented when analyzing Sen. Sherrod Brown’s chances. “I’m very suspect of that this year going into a Democrat primary, with women doing well and the African African base of the Democrat party. I’m not sure it’s time to nominate a white man.”

“A very old guy. … We spoke last week with the Iowa Democrat chairman. They’re a little suspect of nominating an older gentlemen,” he said of Sen. Bernie Sander’s chances.

“Another old white man, so we’re a little suspect,” he even said of former Vice President Joe Biden, who polls show leads the pack in favorability, second only to “none of the above.”

But when Rep. Robert “Beto” O’Rourke popped up on the screen, suddenly Enten saw no need to make a fuss about the failed senatorial nominee’s whiteness, probably because like other Democrats, he falsely considers “Beto” to be Hispanic when in reality he’s not.

The CNN analyst saved his most racist remarks for Sen. Kamala Harris: “She sort of checks off two boxes: African Americans and women,” he said.

Listen to part two of the discussion below:

So according to Enten, Harris isn’t an individual human being with unique views and policy positions — she’s just an accumulation of checked boxes.

The analyst’s bigoted spiel marked the second time in a week that a CNN personality had been caught spouting the sort of rhetoric usually espoused by bigoted reprobates, not media professionals.

While speaking with Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper on Monday about whether or not he intends to run for the presidency in 2020, network host Alisyn Camerota suggested that a “white man” like him should think twice about running for the coveted position.

“You know the debate that the Democratic Party is having right now — is it time to have somebody of color and a woman and somebody younger?” she said. “Or somebody more establishment?”

“As a white guy, are you trying to calculate whether or not this is the right time for you?” she asked.

“Democrats across the country are going to help decide that,” the governor replied. “I’m not sure it’s clear what is exactly needed. But I do know there are a lot of strong opinions.”

Listen to how Camerota replied below:

“As a white guy, are you trying to calculate whether or not this is the right time for you?” she asked.

This surprising question earned both her and her employer a lot of criticism on social media.

Look:

Once Enten’s remarks go viral — they’d just started making the rounds at the time of publication — he’ll likely face a similar dose of criticism.
