Mom-to-be cancels baby shower after family, friends mock name choice, gets little sympathy after public rant

A mother-to-be canceled her baby shower after her family and friends allegedly mocked her choice for the baby’s name.

In a now viral post on Facebook and shared on Reddit, the unidentified woman called out those criticizing her plan to name her baby Squire Sebastian Senator, and announced she was canceling the baby shower they were apparently invited to attend.

“Dear Members of the Squire Sebastian Senator Babyshower (sic),” the post read. “I have a really important announcement to make. It brings me pain to have to tell you this, but I am cancelling the event.”

The woman accused her friends and family of spreading “rumors and lies” in the social media rant.

“Y’all have been talking s— about my unborn baby. AN UNBORN CHILD. How can you judge an unborn child??” she wrote.

“No, I am not crazy. No, I am not mentally unstable. No, I was not drunk when I named my child,” she added.

And the three-name choice will not be the baby’s full name, the soon-to-be mother declared. Squire Sebastian Senator “is only his first name.”

“He will not be allowed to have a nickname, he is to be called by his full and complete first name,” she wrote.

“If you look back in our family tree, the survival of this clan is literally rooted in squiredom. We are all related to senators too,” she explained. “This name conveys power. It conveys wealth. It conveys success.”

“My baby’s name WILL be a revolution,” she added, saying it would cause people to “question everything.”

“Why name your baby boring and over-used names,” she asked, offering examples such as Joshua, Sam and Mark.

She also indicated there was to be another, smaller shower to which only some would be invited.

“I will text you soon if you’re invited to my smaller, more inclusive party,” she wrote. “At least here no one will judge me.”

She concluded her rant with a final jab at her family.

“F**k you all. Fake a** family,” she wrote. “You won’t get to be a part of my baby’s life and it’s all because you had to judge him.”

The mom-to-be did not find many supporters on Reddit, however, where the post was shared.

“No one’s talking s— about your unborn baby. They’re talking s— about your poor naming choices,” one comment read.

“I could carry on about people naming their kids something stupid for hours and hours, but it ends up annoying me to no end, just, why are people so… thoughtless?” asked one Reddit user.

“This could be the first ever child to run away from home before he’s born,” another commented.

“’Why name your child something boring’ Because I’d like to not damn my unborn kid to school bullying and his job applications going right into the trash,” a comment citing the woman’s own words read.

“I’ll say the same thing I tell any friend who gets pregnant: before you settle on a name, imagine growing up with it yourself,” another advised.

An unusual name made headlines last month when a mother claimed her daughter was mocked by a Southwest Airlines agent. Abcde Redford, pronounced ab-city, was en route to Texas with her mother when the incident happened and, as the mother claimed, the agent laughed and then posted a photo of the 5-year-old’s boarding pass on social media.
