Kid Rock pays off Walmart Christmas layaways for 350 families: ‘Merry Christmas and God Bless You!’

Kid Rock brought a whole lot of holiday cheer to 350 Nashville families when he paid off their layaway balances at a Walmart store.

The popular rocker, who was in the news recently for saying what a lot of people think about Joy Behar, owns a (very nice) doublewide trailer outside of Nashville, Tennessee, and he dropped about $81,000 at a local Walmart to pay off 350 accounts, according to NBC affiliate WBIR.

“Kudos to Kid Rock for making such a gesture in our community,” store manager Tom Meyer told WBIR. “I think that’s a pretty Nashville proud moment.”

Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, is worth a cool $80 million so he’ll be just fine, but it was an incredible act of kindness that he said was inspired by actor and director Tyler Perry, who paid off the layaway balances at two Georgia locations to the tune of $434,000 — talk about giving back to your fans!

“Great idea! I followed your lead and paid off the layaway at my local Walmart in Nashville,” Rock tweeted. “Merry Christmas and God Bless You!”

More from WBIR:

Meyer said Kid Rock called the store on Friday morning, explaining that he wanted to spread some good cheer by paying down the balances. Kid Rock’s manager later came into the store to make the big payment. […]

The layaway customers, who have been coming into the store as a result of Kid Rock’s gesture, are wearing shocked and smiling faces, Meyer said. Each one is being handed a card explaining that Kid Rock made the payment on their behalf, he said.

“Merry Christmas from your neighbor!” the cards read.

Perry, who said he was trying to be anonymous in his gesture of good will, shared a video on Twitter informing customers of their good fortune.

“I have paid for all of your layaways for Christmas. So Merry Christmas to everybody,” he said. “You got to go into the Walmart, get your layaway and pay a penny, one penny, and you get your layaway. I know it’s hard times and a lot of people are struggling. I’m just really really grateful to be able to be in a position to do this. So, God bless you. Go get your stuff.”

The retail giant responded on Twitter: “This totally ROCKS! Thank you @KidRock and @tylerperry for your amazing generosity ? #SparkKindness.”

Kid Rock’s gesture shows he harbors no hard feelings after being scrapped as the grand marshal of the Nashville Christmas Parade after trashing Behar on Fox & Friends. Mayor David Briley — a Democrat –threatened to skip the event

On a positive note, he was replaced by Waffle House mass shooting hero James Shaw Jr.

Not that Rock was about to apologize for his actions.

“Today I said ‘Screw that Joy Behar b*tch.’  Mess with the bull, you get the horns. End of story,” he said in a statement on Facebook, while offering a little context to his remark.
