‘There is fear in my mind’: Veteran says vandals left his ‘Trump 2020’ flag burned on his front porch

A veteran who served two tours in Afghanistan was left with “fear in my mind” — in his own home in Burlington, Vermont.

The reason? Because he supports President Donald Trump.

Gus Klein awoke Sunday morning to find his flagpole on the ground and his attached “Trump 2020” flag missing, according to CBS affiliate WCAX-TV.

“I looked on the front porch and I see some cloth on the front porch,” Klein explained to the affiliate. “It looked like it was burned.”

That cloth was the remnants of his Trump flag.

But even more troubling, the 57-year-old vet doesn’t know for sure if the flag was still burning when placed on his porch, which could have had deadly consequences.

“I was in bed sleeping with my family and I don’t know if this flag was on fire when they threw it on my front porch,” Klein said. “I can assume it wasn’t, but if it was that is not right at all.”

A man or woman who served their country in a time of war should be able to feel safe in their own home, but that’s a luxury Klein no longer has.

“There is fear in my mind and it’s not right,” Klein said. “I should be able to come and go as I want. And we should be able to sleep at night in our own property, so there is fear.”

But if the cowards think they are going to intimidate Klein, they have missed their guess.

“It’s not going to stop me for believing in who, and campaigning for who I believe is right for the United States,” he said.

The Burlington Police Department is investigating the incident.
