Lindsey Graham poised to head Senate Judiciary Committee. Collective gulp from Dems who recall his warnings.

Given Sen. Lindsey Graham’s contempt for his Democratic colleagues throughout the Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court nomination hearings, their worst nightmare is on the verge of coming true.

“If I am chairman, next year, I’m going to remember this,” Graham warned the cabal of Democrats who orchestrated the gutless 11th hour ambush of Kavanaugh.

Graham earned Republican praise for the hard-hitting way he handled Democrats and protesters during the Kavanaugh confirmation circus. Image: Viral picture of Graham brushing off a raging Kavanaugh protester.

Well, Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, announced Friday that he will be taking over the chairmanship of the Finance Committee, which puts Graham in position to succeed Grassley as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, The Hill reported.

The South Carolina Republican took to Twitter to praise Grassley’s leadership of the committee.

“I very much appreciate Senate @ChuckGrassley’s leadership of the Senate Judiciary Committee,” Graham tweeted. “He chaired the committee with a steady hand, sense of fundamental fairness, and resolve. His leadership serves as a model to us all.”

Graham also shared where his focus will be if he’s selected as Judiciary chairman, to include “aggressive oversight of the [DOJ] and FBI.”

“If I am fortunate enough to be selected by my colleagues to serve as Chairman, I will push for the appointment and Senate confirmation of highly qualified conservative judges to the federal bench and aggressive oversight of the Department of Justice and FBI,” he tweeted.

As for the oversight function, Graham told CNN in a recent interview that he would further investigate the Hillary Clinton email controversy if he becomes chairman of the Judiciary Committee.

The lawmaker also discussed his strategy if selected as Judiciary chair with Fox News’ Sean Hannity.

Graham has been supportive of protecting special counsel Robert Mueller being able to complete his investigation.

Regardless, the left is not happy with the prospects of a Graham chairmanship:

At the same time, there is already a look ahead to 2020, when Graham is up for reelection, and how the plum assignment might impact the outcome.
