Retiring Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake hasn’t ruled out potentially running in the 2020 GOP primary against President Donald Trump, with whom he’s repeatedly sparred since the 2016 election.
“I’ve not ruled it out. I’ve not ruled it in,” he pithily said when asked during an interview this week about a potential run. “Just, somebody needs to run on the Republican side.”
He meant that somebody needs to run against Trump, whom he appears to dislike with a vengeance. Just this week the Arizona senator penned a column for The Washington Post — a paper the president loathes — arguing that “Republicans must move beyond the cult of Trump’s personality.”

“If I were 18 today and had to say what conservatives now believe in, and my only evidence was the campaign now concluded, I would have to say that the conservative party in the United States seems to be the party that scares you into supporting it,” he wrote.
“I would have to say that it is the party fueled by anger, by racial and cultural resentments, by outlandish conspiracy theories and by what can only be described as an irrational fear of immigrants.”
The column appeared to be a rehash of dubious left-wing talking points about the president’s rhetoric, which the far-left has derided as sexist, racist, xenophobic, Islamophobic, etc. Keep in mind the left uses the same smears and slurs against everyone who opposes their narrative.
Despite Flake’s repeated attempts to cater to the left, he hasn’t endeared himself to many, primarily because liberal Democrats think he hasn’t been tough enough on Trump. They also resent him for ultimately voting in favor of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
Jeff u will fade away…While u talked tuff u never once took the bull by the horns and tried to lead…Even when u had no political risk with retirement u chose to do nothing but a speech

Absolutely no interest in reading what you have to say. I’m sorry, you are always a day late and a dollar short.

The American people are done trusting what you have to say it’s time for you to go on your way. Goodbye 👋

You had the chance to defend our democracy and you failed. Time to move on senator, don’t talk unless you actually plan on doing something

Nor is Flake much liked by conservatives, who can’t stand his habit of constantly acting like a Democrat and fraud. Not only did the Arizona senator write a column blasting the Republican president this week, but he also pushed forward legislation to protect special counsel Robert Mueller.
“After the firing of The AG, it is more important than ever to protect the Special Counsel,” he tweeted after former Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ ouster, alluding to unsubstantiated Democrat concerns that his replacement might go after Mueller.
And on Saturday the senator criticized the president for questioning the legitimacy of election results in Arizona, where Democrat senatorial candidate Kyrsten Sinema suddenly took the lead at the last minute.
Because of behavior like this, few on the right can even tolerate him anymore.
Well Flake needs to run as a Dem bc he is not a republican

He should run as a Democrat, which is what he is!

Flake is not GOP all the way. He’s a complete flake & should leave the Republican Party. Democrats are free to take him in.

Jeff Flake wants to run in 2020, ppl wake up he is a democrat in desguised as a republican. Every picture you see of him he is with a dem.

Jeff Flake is a Loser. Like McCain he panders to the Democrats. Maybe Flake and Kasisch can run for the Dems Presidential hopefuls in 2020. They are both D’s in GOP clothing anyway.

Given how many people dislike him and how low his favorability ratings perpetually remain, it’s unclear who Flake thinks would even vote for him were he to run in 2020.
Some think he’d stand a better chance if he teamed up with socialist Democrat Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and ran on a “Flakes and Nuts 2020” ticket.
