Conservative commentator Rich Lowry of National Review finds it strange that so many media “analysts” and “reporters” believe President Donald Trump deserves the blame for an antisemitic loon opening fire in a Pittsburgh synagogue Saturday and killing at least 11 people.
“What’s even the theory supposed to be that Trump is an anti-Semite?” he tweeted Saturday afternoon, referencing the exact theory that’s emerged among members of the media.
What’s even the theory supposed to be that Trump is an anti-Semite?
— Rich Lowry (@RichLowry) October 27, 2018
Less than two hours later, an “analyst” with ABC News rushed in to prove Lowry’s point to a T.
“Rich, are you acting dumb on purpose?” Matthew Dowd asked. “This shooter was anti-refugee and anti-immigrant. And he was obsessed with HIAS, a group involved in settling refugees, which this synagogue in Pittsburg was involved. Who do you know has been anti-immigrant and refugee???”

Certainly not the president, who’s welcomed legal immigrants with open arms and granted entry to hundreds of refugees from across the world. Watch below as the president delivers a message to newly naturalized immigrants in a ceremony that reportedly occurred last year:
But a far more pertinent point is that alleged shooter Robert Bowers is a rabid antisemite whose bigoted views cannot be linked to the president in any way, shape or form.
Why? Because Trump is one of the most pro-Jewish presidents ever elected to office. Besides boasting a Jewish daughter and son-in-law, he also happens be the man who — after decades of stalling by other presidents — finally relocated the U.S. Embassy to Israel’s capital, Jerusalem.
Trump’s also a stalwart friend of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a man considered to be the most influential Jewish person on Earth.
The president is clearly not an antisemite like Bowers, as many on social media — including Lowry — repeatedly tried to explain to Dowd, albeit to no avail.
Look:
Please, Matt. The president didn’t make this scumbag an anti-Semitic kook. Trump obviously says many things he shouldn’t and no president should. That doesn’t make him an anti-Semite or mean he’s inciting people to mass murder
— Rich Lowry (@RichLowry) October 28, 2018
And that makes Trump an anti-semite?
— Brit Hume (@brithume) October 28, 2018
Didn’t say that, he has fomented much of this with his vitriol and hate speech towards many Americans and immigrants. You must see that and see his responsibility in that.
— Matthew Dowd (@matthewjdowd) October 28, 2018
Brit, you would do well in this moment to call a meeting at Fox News and figure out the responsibility you all have in this moment as well.
— Matthew Dowd (@matthewjdowd) October 28, 2018
Dowd refused to listen, choosing instead to expand the blame even further to Fox News and essentially every other conservative outlet that’s been unafraid to report the truth honestly, even when it offends the politically correct. Bad move, Mr. Dowd. Bad move.
Observe the reaction to his blame game below:
Matt, you can’t defend your response to Rich, so you accuse Fox News of complicity in today’s murders. That’s simply insane.
— Brit Hume (@brithume) October 28, 2018
Matt that’s deeply unfair to accuse Fox of any complicity in murders by people of that ilk. These horrifying anti-Semites have been lurking in the dark corners of our national world since before Fox was founded. They take their views from things like Mein Kampf not Fox News.

The only anger I see on TV is what MSNBC, CNN, CBS,NBC, ABC, ESPN spew. As a result, you have America’s angry with you because we want an honest press. If you spent even 30% of your coverage accurately reporting the good (economy, Korea, GNP, etc) you would have more trust.
— Anna (@noimright) October 28, 2018
Sadly the tribalism runs so deep and people like Dowd are so angry that they ignore clips on these other shows and Pelosi talking about collateral damage. Progressivism is simply a cancer

Liberals can never argue with component conservatives.
Their logic is pathetic
— Noisy Ninja (@NoisyNinja2) October 28, 2018
I agree, Matt helped re-elect George w bush in 2004 and was always a centrist. But his tweets of late sound like the rantings of socialist college professor. This doesn’t make any sense. Matt is usually very kind and he has been cruel lately
— Christopher C Reid (@ReidFirm) October 28, 2018
Whoa. @brithume crushed @matthewjdowd so all he can do is pivot to Fox. Stunning how Matt’s adapted narrative of the last 3 years about Trump crumbled in a matter of one tweet once Matt left his bubble and into the world of @RichLowry and @brithume.

Nice try, though.
