‘Shut up!’ Don Lemon loses it, gets into nasty exchange with Matt Lewis over the word ‘mob’

CNN embarked on a campaign this week to defend the Democratic Party from being identified as an angry mob in the wake of the unhinged, out of control behavior seen during the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Doing his part to carry the water, Lemon held a panel discussion that turned nasty at the end, with the CNN host getting into it with Matt Lewis, a conservative columnist at The Daily Beast.

Lemon played a clip of a recent comment from President Donald Trump to set up the discussion — an observation that has clearly resonated with Americans.

“You don’t hand matches to an arsonist, and you don’t give power to an angry left-wing mob, and that is what they’ve become,” the president said at a rally. “That is what the Democrats have become. They’d turn our country so fast into Venezuela and Venezuela is not doing it too well, folks.”

Toward the end of the segment, Lewis was adamant about some of the actions seen from liberal activists, such as confronting Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and his wife at a restaurant, being the actions of an out-of-control mob, while Lemon tried in vain to justify the extreme behavior as legitimate protesting, protected by the Constitution.

The more Lewis pushed, the more frustrated Lemon became.

“Will you let me finish, Matt, please, before you jump in? I’m making a point. I can’t make it if you keep interrupting me,” Lemon said.

Lewis fired back by asking Lemon if he was moderator or arguing the liberal point of view.

They continued to go back and forth, with Lewis telling Lemon to look up the word “mob” in the dictionary. He continued to interrupt as Lemon tried to make his point.

“Will you let me finish? Matt, please!” the CNN host yelled. “Let me finish!”

“Bring it on,” Lewis said. “Mind if I have a drink?”

“You can do whatever you want. You can leave the show if you want,” Lemon replied, seemingly forgetting that he’s in control. “Just let me finish and I’ll make my point.”

“I’m not going to do that,” Lewis said of leaving.

“Then shut up and let me do it!” Lemon countered.

Lemon finally made his point, which was to take the Constitution out of context, before ending the segment.

“In the Constitution, you can protest whenever and wherever you want,” he claimed. “It doesn’t tell you that you can’t do it in a restaurant, that you can’t do it on a football field. It doesn’t tell you that you can’t do it on a cable news you can do it wherever you want. To call people mobs because they are exercising their constitutional right is just beyond account pale.”

“We’ll be right back.

The tense exchange prompted this reaction from Candace Owens

“Last night on @CNN, Kanye West was called a “token negro” and a “dumb negro”. I want you guys to imagine if those words were EVER uttered on @FoxNews. CNN has finally committed to going full blown RACIST. They want their slaves back ??,” she tweeted.

Here’s a sampling of responses to Owens’ tweet:
