Former Michigan Democratic gubernatorial candidate turned political activist Abdul El-Sayed took a shot at Michigan Republican Senate candidate and Army combat veteran John James, claiming the Michigan GOP is best described by those who “mooch” off their fathers.

El-Sayed was responding to a tweet from former Fox News personality Kimberley Guilfoyle, who was expressing excitement that her boyfriend, Donald Trump Jr., would be campaigning for James.

El-Sayed lost the Democratic primary in August by more than 20 points, despite receiving heavy support from progressive names in the Democratic Party, including Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and the Democratic socialist running for New York’s 14th Congressional District, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

“Nothing describes [the Michigan Republican Party] better than a man who has done nothing of value but mooch off his daddy–who mooched off *his* daddy. No action, just words,” El-Sayed tweeted.

James, the President Donald Trump–endorsed veteran taking on three-term Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow, responded shortly thereafter.

“My family never asked for free stuff, just a fair shot. We can’t allow the American Dream to be crushed by you, [Stabenow] & Socialism,” he tweeted back.

Recent polls show Stabenow leading James by double digits heading into November’s election.
