Even before the final vote on Justice Brett Kavanaugh Saturday, there was a call for female performers to take a stand – by taking a knee.
Actress Molly Ringwald urged women in a tweet last week to kneel during their performances of the national anthem.
I am calling on either Beyonce, Ariana Grande or Christine Aguilera to sing the National Anthem on bended knee #JustDoIt
— Molly Ringwald (@MollyRingwald) October 5, 2018
Ringwald got plenty of pushback from conservatives calling her out for the ridiculous suggestion.
What is wrong with you? It’s like this man is responsible for every woman every assaulted.. This man was not proven to have dinner anything wrong. The accuser can’t process anything and everyone she named said they didn’t agree with her

You’re a disgrace & un-American! My husband & millions of other veterans fought for your freedom while us wives sacrificed & raised our children while they were away fighting for YOUR freedom! Disgraceful!!!

But an anti-Trump American pastor living in Canada reigned in Ringwald and her like-minded supporters, slamming the “white supremacy in the name of feminism” displayed by the anthem idea.
White women kneeling during the anthem to protest “rape culture” is highjacking a movement you took no risks for. You didn’t kneel in solidarity to protest the murder of Black people, don’t co opt & make it about your victimization. That’s white supremacy in the name of feminism.
— Bishop Talbert Swan (@TalbertSwan) October 6, 2018
The pastor of Spring of Hope Church of God in Christ, who attacked conservative commentator Candace Owens as a “coon” back in June, went on to level one attack after another on the issue, calling out “white women” as the problem.
Why couldn’t kneeling spread into the white community and culture as a protest against the murder of black people?
Why does it have to spread into the white community and culture by being co-opted by white women into a statement against rape culture?https://t.co/8mXTqPvKuh
— Bishop Talbert Swan (@TalbertSwan) October 6, 2018
When others challenged the Bishop, her fired back without hesitation.
it could still!!! we are waking up … those of us that are any oppression . is the same oppression ., isn’t it?
— ellen lansburgh (@thisbabyknows) October 6, 2018
So basically, you just put the struggle of white women on par with the oppression of black people. You All Lives Mattered racial oppression and minimized the experience of black people. You may as well go ahead and use the hashtag #AllOppressionsMatter https://t.co/JO0bHA6QU6
— Bishop Talbert Swan (@TalbertSwan) October 6, 2018
You’re as wrong there’s two left shoes. Here’s a hard dose of reality, white women are part of the system that oppresses black people. they willingly and happily play their role in that system. It’s not the same. Never has been. Never will be.https://t.co/8NzRMTtSg6
— Bishop Talbert Swan (@TalbertSwan) October 6, 2018
That’s exactly what it is.
To change the meaning of #TakeAKnee from a movement led by Black men to protest injustice against black people to a liberal white woman led protest against rape culture is hijacking.
It’s offensive & epitomizes white supremacy.https://t.co/VAjcV1cZO2

Of course, the left turning on their own was entertaining for others.
They’re eating their own. Looks delicious please have some more. https://t.co/l4fbHOMiA6

And the alarming similarity to the premise of the “Handmaid’s Tale” was not lost on others.
If only there was a word for men empowered by established religion telling women what to do https://t.co/nTEXS4c6Cd

A few Twitter users did agree with the Bishop, and slammed Ringwald for daring to make the suggestion.
A thousand times this. https://t.co/cKxdIofjVr

Harsh but valid. Taking the knee is a specific protest. Women have every right to be pissed and to protest, but taking the knee is not ours to use unless it’s in support of our black brethren.
— Nyce An’ Indelible In The Hippocampys (@anathemadeviced) October 6, 2018
No, plz no! Taking a knee is not available for appropriation or co-optation by WW! Until WW and the feminist movement are fighting racism day in and day out… you’ve got no business! And even then, you better check with a whole lot of Black women! #ListentoBlackWomem #DoBetter
— Stand For Something (@barrerocks) October 6, 2018
No!!!!!! Protest something tied to your cause!! Disappear for a day. Yell ‘Me too’ at noon. Something but be creative and figure out your own protest vs usurping the one fighting the injustice placed upon of black & brown lives!!!!

We’ve been kneeling, WHERE WERE YOU??? pic.twitter.com/sIwuU030ZS
