Lindsey Graham: ‘If Donald Trump gets Nobel Peace Prize, liberals all over the world will jump out of buildings’

South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham suggested this week that if President Donald Trump were to win the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize, the unhinged left would react in rather unhealthy ways, to put it lightly.

“Well if North Korea comes through, yes,” the senator said Thursday after being asked by a TMZ reporter whether he thought Trump might win. “I’ll say this, if Donald Trump gets the Nobel Peace Prize, liberals all over the world will jump out of buildings.”

Listen to his full response below:

Graham delivered this zinger a day before the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize was slated to be awarded.

“It’s not about being liked, it’s about results,” he added after the cameraman complained that Trump wasn’t “too liked.” “So I think he’s doing a good job destroying ISIS, taking Iran on, but if we get North Korea to give up their nukes and live in peace, God, he would deserve a Nobel Peace Prize.”

Tensions between the United States and North Korea have cooled dramatically since the president’s rudely interrupted summit with dictator Kim Jong Un over the summer. And during the Hermit Kingdom’s 70th anniversary parade last month, no nuclear missiles were seen:

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was reportedly scheduled to arrive in North Korea over the weekend to continue ongoing negotiations and possibly schedule a second summit.

Despite the president’s accomplishments, the Norwegian Nobel Committee wound up awarding the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize to Nadia Murad, a Yazidi-Iraqi human rights activist and former Islamic State slave, and Denis Mukwege, a Congolese gynecologist who specializes in treating rape victims of war.

The interview between Graham and a TMZ reporter concluded after the reporter noted to the senator that former President Barack Obama had once won a Noble Peace Prize.

“Yeah, he won for not being [President] Bush,” Graham quickly replied, the point being that Obama had done virtually nothing to earn the award.

He was correct. The former president won the award in 2009 despite being in office for only nine months and accomplishing nothing notable. Former Nobel Institute director and Nobel Commitee secretary Geir Lundestad admitted six years later that the committee had voted to award the prize to Obama to try and help him achieve peace — which he never did.

“[We] thought it would strengthen Obama and it didn’t have this effect,” Lundestad conceded during a 2015 interview with the Associated Press.

The reactions on social media to Graham’s remarks were divided, with some playing along with Graham’s zinger and others throwing a pity party.

Newsflash to liberals: Jokes don’t divide a country — they make a country laugh.
