As pearl-clutching Dems slam Kavanaugh, video of Obama recounting hard-partying days sweeps internet

While the left has dragged Brett Kavanaugh’s name through the mud over his alleged drinking and potential “blackouts” in his school years, it seems they have had some memory lapses of their own.

A rare video of former President Obama Barack Obama has resurfaced from his days as an Illinois State Senator, recalling his “adolescent” years when he drank “a six-pack in an hour” in between classes and “consumed substances that weren’t always legal.”

The Daily Wire’s Ryan Saavedra tweeted out the video segment by The History Makers which was recorded in February 2001.

“I think I  was a thug for a big part of my growing up,” Obama said in response to a question about his growing up years and what he aspired to be or do in the future.

“I think I was a very typical, gregarious, mischievous child as a young boy,” the then-40-year-old Obama recalled.

“I didn’t take school that seriously,” he continued. “I got into fights. I drank and did —and consumed substances that weren’t always legal.”

“Some of my behavior was self-destructive,” he admitted. “I might have drank a six-pack in an hour before going back to class, things like that.”

In a blog for CNS News, Michael Chapman notes that Kavanaugh’s beer drinking “can’t hold a candle” to Obama’s admitted cocaine and marijuana during his high school years. Chapman provided an extensive list of excerpts from books by and about Obama that reference his drug use and drinking.

According to Chapman:

While liberals express outrage over the fact that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh drank beer — reportedly sometimes to excess — in high school and college, they and the leftist media have largely ignored the extensive partying of former President Barack Obama, who has confessed to heavy pot smoking and cocaine use in high school and college.

Given the drinking limits being set retroactively for Kavanaugh by his leftist critics and arguments therefrom that he is not suited for the high court, it is reasonable to conclude that Barack Obama’s extensive illegal drug use would preclude him from a seat on the Supreme Court, or on any federal bench.

But the left’s double standards and hypocrisy make them blind to the obvious irony in the current treatment of Kavanaugh, especially in comparison to their hero, Obama.

Saavedra’s tweet and the video of Obama sparked plenty of reaction on Twitter where it has been retweeted over 22,000 times as of this writing.
