Lindsey Graham’s on a mission to track Dems’ activity with Ford: ‘I’m going to get to the bottom of this’

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina explained what drove him to defend Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh during the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing and lamented how GOP nominees continue to be treated unfairly.

Host of “Sunday Morning Futures” Maria Bartiromo asked Graham what prompted him to action. He said he was angry at how Democrats were trying to “destroy” Kavanaugh’s life.

“Outrage,” Graham replied. “I’ve known Brett for 20 years. He’s gone through six FBI background investigations. He’s appointed more women to be his law clerk than any circuit judge in the country. He’s highly respected. Not one hint of impropriety and they tried to destroy his life. I voted for Sotomayor and Kagan. This was about delaying the hearing, keeping the seat open past the midterms.”

Graham said Republicans, including himself, honored former President Barack Obama’s judicial nominees and treated them fairly but accused Democrats of demolishing that good faith, to advance a partisan agenda.

“There are no rules when it comes to Brett Kavanaugh,” he continued. “I honored Obama’s election. He got to pick Sotomayor and Kagan. They don’t want to honor President Trump’s ability to pick a fine man.”

Graham said he’s willing to reach across the aisle and compromise but claimed Democrats had finally taken their tactics it too far.

“When [Dick] Durbin told [Kavanaugh] ‘turn to Don McGahn if you’re truly innocent’ and ask for this to continue — that was a bridge too far,” he concluded.

“I think I spoke in a way that a lot of Republicans at least, could relate to. And I’m a bipartisan guy. I will continue to be. But when it’s about judicial nominees nominated by our side, I’m going to make sure they’re treated fairly and he was not.”
