Ford’s lawyer demands no limits on time or scope of investigation. Dems already calling it ‘sham FBI probe’

Hours after the Trump administration launched what was to be a 1-week investigation into dubious allegations of sexual assault pertaining to Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, his accuser’s attorneys moved the goalpost, suddenly demanding the investigation extend beyond a week.

“No artificial limits as to time or scope should be imposed on this investigation,” Debra Katz, the left-wing activist hired by accuser Christine Blasey Ford to serve as her attorney, said in a statement Friday afternoon that prompted sarcastic condemnation from conservatives:

The Trump administration launched the investigation after Senate Judiciary Committee member Sen. Jeff Flake acquiesced to Democrat demands and announced he would not support Kavanaugh’s confirmation vote on the Senate floor unless certain conditions were met.

The conditions were that a 1-week FBI investigation be launched to determine whether the nominee had in fact once sexually assaulted Ford in high school decades ago. The right’s irritation with Katz’ statement stemmed from them having known beforehand that she’d try to move the goalpost again.

After first learning of the accusations against Kavanaugh in July, Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Dianne Feinstein neither reported them to the FBI or her Senate colleagues. Instead she waited until days before the nominee’s confirmation vote to suddenly spring the accusations on the Senate.

When the GOP-led Senate Judiciary Committee began investigating the accusations, she and her Democrat allies demurred, choosing to not take part in the interview of corroborating witnesses like Mark Judge, who’s denied Ford’s allegations in full. So has every other alleged witness.

The Democrats’ past behavior suggest they have no interest in discerning the actual truth. They merely want to delay or stop Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the high court. Their rhetoric after Trump launched the FBI investigation they’d been demanding for weeks further lends credence to this theory.

Former FBI Director Bill Gavin noted Friday to Fox News host Neil Cavuto that some Democrats are already referring to the investigation as a “sham.”

“Sen. Rosenthal has already said he’s not interested in any ‘sham FBI investigation.’ That kind of paves the road for me, saying, no matter what you do, it’s not going to be acceptable,” he said.

He noted though that, despite the left’s rhetoric, “I know the bureau will have all the resources in place as best they can in order to move with this as rapidly as they can.”

Gavin further pointed out that, despite the FBI’s best efforts, the Senate will most likely wind up back at square once the bureau’s investigation is complete, in part because there’s nothing new to learn.

“It’s nothing but political theater … They’re going to want to put it back in the committee, and you know what’s going to happen there. It’s going to look black to one group and white to another group. Nobody’s going to agree, and the theater will go on and on,” he said.

Of course, political theater may be exactly what the Democrats have been seeking from day one.
