Is Democratic socialist Julia Salazar the new Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez? It sure seems that way, based on the similar lies they told about their backgrounds to catapult themselves as rising stars in their party.
Salazar, 27, defeated eight-term Democratic incumbent Senator Martin Dilan in New York’s 18th district in New York’s primary elections on September 13.
Salazar’s surprise victory mirrored that of fellow socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, 28, who shot to fame in June 2018 after beating incumbent House Democrat Joseph Crowley in New York’s 14th district.
Like Ocasio-Cortez, Salazar is a first-time candidate who was unknown before winning her first election. She is virtually guaranteed to win her Senate seat in November because there is no Republican running in her district in the general election.
Like Ocasio-Cortez, Salazar stirred controversy by lying about her background. Salazar claimed that she was an immigrant from Colombia who grew up poor. In reality, Julia Salazar is a wealthy trust-fund baby who was born in Miami, Florida, the AP reported.
Salazar also claimed that she had graduated from Columbia University; that too was a lie. Salazar later insisted that her staff had “inadvertently misrepresented” her biographical details.
Salazar’s street cred as a Jewish Democratic socialist has also been challenged amid revelations that she was a staunch anti-abortion Christian Republican before miraculously making the conversion to become a radical-left Jewish Democrat.
One disappointing result in New York: Julia Salazar has unseated the incumbent state senator. Martin Malavé Dilan was no prize, but geesh, folks, Salazar has been caught in lie after lie about her bio. Completely weird. And I have no dog at all in this fight. #NYPrimaries pic.twitter.com/nWuBBHlavO

Julia “Salazar…has been caught telling misleading statements and outright lies about her background.”
— Niraj Warikoo (@nwarikoo) September 14, 2018
In 2011, Salazar was arrested (but not prosecuted) for attempted bank fraud after the estranged wife of former New York Mets baseball star Keith Hernandez accused her of trying to steal her money.
The lies Julia Salazar told about her background echo those spouted by rising Democratic star Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. (So basically, Salazar is Ocasio-Cortez 2.0.)
As BizPac Review previously reported, Ocasio-Cortez falsely claimed that she had overcome a tough childhood growing up in the Bronx, a low-income borough outside of Manhattan.

In reality, Alexandria (who was born in the Bronx) was raised in Yorktown Heights, an upscale suburb in Westchester County with a median income of $95,523. That’s an upper-middle-class ‘hood.
This is the Yorktown Heights (very nice area) home @Ocasio2018 grew up in before going off to Ivy League Brown University.
A far cry from the Bronx hood upbringing she’s selling. pic.twitter.com/xyOtZzVJII

Democrats Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Julia Salazar openly embrace socialism (a failed economic system) and want to abolish ICE, which protects U.S. borders, cracks down on violent drug cartels, and stems human sex trafficking.

Hopefully, Salazar is less clueless about world affairs than Ocasio-Cortez, who made a fool of herself in numerous interviews when trying to discuss real-life issues that extend beyond bumper-sticker liberal talking points.
Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez attacks Israel, calls them the occupiers of Palestine.
When pressed on what she meant she struggled to give an answer and then admitted she does not know what she is talking about. pic.twitter.com/e3Uq1eupD3
