President Donald Trump didn’t mince words in a tweet slamming Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Monday.
Trump blamed Sessions for putting two solidly red Congressional seats in jeopardy by highlighting “long running” Obama-era investigations just ahead of the mid-terms.
Trump was likely referring to the recent indictments of Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) and Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY).
Hunter and his wife were indicted last month for filing false records and illegally using $250,000 in campaign funds for personal expenses, Fox News reported. Collins was indicted in August for on charges of insider-trading that prosecutors claim took place in 2017.
“Democrats, none of whom voted for Sessions, must love him now,” Trump wrote in a second tweet lashing out at Sessions.
Trump’s latest tweets directed at Sessions signal growing disappointment the president has with the A.G. since he recused himself from the Russia investigation, paving the way for Mueller to take over.
Many of Trump’s staunchest supporters have openly called for the president to fire Sessions.
“Jeff Sessions, here’s the bottom line,” Judge Jeanine Pirro said on Fox & Friends last week in regard to his handling of seemingly corrupt FBI and DOJ officials.
“If [Trump] doesn’t want you, you should just leave. Where’s your dignity?” she concluded.
“The president has been extremely patient, but you know what, it’s time for him to lose patience.”
