Minn candidate seeking to unseat a Republican proudly uses racial slur in campaign ad

A Minnesota state House candidate is defending his use of a racial slur in his first campaign video.

Running for the Minnesota House as an independent, Kyle Greene wants people to focus on “the real issues at hand” and is not backing down from using the word in a video ad he posted to his Facebook page.

“I want to be your state representative. I want to be your public servant. And I want to be your n—–,” Greene said in the video.

The words “Judicial Reform” appeared at the bottom of the screen in the 30-second video though the candidate did not refer to a plan in the clip.

“We need to unify as a society, and we need to stop dealing with trivial matters. The word … is part of the American history, regardless of the race,” Greene told The Star Tribune in his defense. “It’s part of my history being African-American, white and Cherokee Indian.”

The organic farmer from Grove City, which is about 70 miles northwest of Minneapolis, is running against incumbent Republican Rep. Dean Urdahl in congressional district 18A.

Greene  who has served in the Army National Guard, pledged to hold government and other public officials accountable, arguing that “the judiciary has allowed perjury, double jeopardy, prosecutorial misconduct, bribery, etc., to go unpunished when used against citizens who are not part of the ‘good ol’ boys’ network” in his district, according to his website.

Greene’s candidacy has not received endorsements by any party or major organization so far, according to The Star Tribune. But his questionable choice of words has been largely ignored by the press.

Meanwhile, Republican Florida gubernatorial candidate Ron DeSantis has come under heavy fire over an innocuous term the media immediately declared “racist.”

Online, many who viewed Greene’s video were less than supportive of Greene’s use of the word and his campaign in general.

“Why would you say that?” one Facebook user asked.

“Interesting marketing,” remarked another.
