John Goodman reveals what ABC does to ‘Roseanne Connor’ character in spin-off

Having canceled “Roseanne” after the show’s namesake, Roseanne Barr, shared an ill-advised tweet about Obama royalty member Valerie Jarrett, ABC’s now looking to wipe its hands clean in killing off Barr’s character in the planned spin-off, “The Connors.”

Actor John Goodman, who starred alongside Barr and will appear in the new show, told the Sunday Times U.K. that her character, Roseanne Connor, will meet its fate.

“I guess he’ll be mopey and sad because his wife’s dead,” Goodman said of his new role.

It certainly makes for an effective strategy to draw eyes to the new Barr-less show — Barr relinquished all rights to the characters to allow the spin-off to proceed.

Goodman described his relationship with Barr as little more than “work friends,” but does not buy into the claims that her tweet was race oriented — Barr said she did not know that a light-skinned Jarrett was African-American when comparing her to a character on the Planet of the Apes.

“I know, I know, for a fact that she’s not a racist,” Goodman said.

While the “Roseanne” character was a supporter of President Donald Trump, odds are good that the president won’t be treated very kindly in the new production. His name did come up when social media users suggested ways to do away with Mrs. Connor.
